The $35 million firearms portal launched to enforce WA’s tough new gun laws has been paused after a security breach.
But the Government rejected calls to halt the roll-out as “fear mongering” and senior police insisted the risk was “minor”.
A Jarrahdale sports shooting club raised the alarm, after it realised a former club official was still able to access data that included the storage locations of firearms registered to the club’s corporate licence.
Police said 10 people were linked to the club’s account and it appeared only one unauthorised person had inadvertently accessed the system.
But Commander Lawrence Panaia conceded there was the potential more corporate licences - and the locations of hundreds of secured firearms - could have been exposed.
“That’s why we suspended the portal, to make sure that can’t happen,” he said.
“I would suggest, at this point, that’s a minor risk. We’re talking about authorised people on a corporate license who, for various reasons, are no longer on that . . . Those people are fit and proper people, they were authorised.
“I want to give everyone reassurances that the system has not been hacked, it is an internal breach, an access breach.” SNIP

“I want to give everyone reassurances that the system has not been hacked, it is an internal breach, an access breach.” — Yeah, and no rabid whacked-out Washington State commie government employee would EVER release that data to the public.
Nope. Nosirree. Would never happen.
Fortunately lots of us already have what we want and all grandfathered in ... WA went liberal/socialist just like CA.
“...portal launched to INFRINGE on peoples constitutional rights...”. Hey auzzies.....oy oy oy...🖕
Sounds like a pretty minor breach, but this is the known breach. There may be unknown ones.
Must really stink living in a police state like Australia.
A note about this. This is probably NOT Washington state. I googled the town referenced in the article and got this result:
Jarrahdale can refer to a town in Western Australia or a variety of winter squash/pumpkin.
So probably WA means Western Australia, especially since the source is a news source named “The West Australian”
Such a shame. Australia is a beautiful country.
Western Australia, not Washington State.
Thanks.
Hacked or breached, doesn’t matter. The system was compromised and accessed by someone who shouldn’t have had access.
Good ol’ hopolophobes and liberals. Take the guns then import masses of violent third world trash to run amok. Melbourne is gone. Sydney going.
Thanks. The poster should have clarified this when posting.
It's at the top of the page under the headline in red.
That’s the source of the article. We get US news from foreign sources all of the time - Israel, BBC, etc . .
