Putin has just discovered the scale of his latest miscalculation
The Telegraph ^

Posted on 07/14/2025 1:28:01 PM PDT by USA-FRANCE

President Donald Trump has finally lost patience with Vladimir Putin. Having promised a “major” announcement on Russia, Trump has now confirmed that the US will dramatically increase weapons supplies to Europe for use in Ukraine and threatened 100 per cent secondary tariffs on Russia’s trade partners. Trump would only provide Russia with an off-ramp if Putin agreed to a ceasefire in Ukraine within 50 days.

You wish, but reality is Ukraine is not a member of NATO and NATO defence agreements do not apply to Ukraine.

I know it's very hard for you to accept, but Ukraine is being treated as if it was a NATO member. The only thing missing is NATO troops on the ground, but that may be the next step.

Good news is, that's what Trump thinks and that's what counts.

Correct. What Trump thinks is how he's acting, and he's acting to send military aid to Ukraine, even if indirectly.

Try to keep up with the facts.

Most of y'all would feel the same way if it was your home being invaded by a bunch of Communists

The Communists are here, my friend; they are one successful election away. I had far more concern about having to contend with a loss of civil liberties and a rogue national police force during the Biden presidency than I ever did from post-Soviet Russia.

Your attempt to conflate modern Russia with the USSR may work in some circles, but not here. I think Russia has every reason to protect itself against a post-Christian/neo-pagan America pushing LBTQWERTY in its backyard through unwarranted NATO expansion.

It’s not me. It’s Putin asking for the U.S. to get involved and to support Ukraine with weapons and economic aid

That's still true, and beyond your capacity to understand what I said.

Putin is “asking for US support for Ukraine” huh?

Absolutely.

I'll make it simple, so that maybe even you can understand.

If a bully attacked a smaller person, and that person had no way to defend himself, and that defenseless person saw somebody that could help him, wouldn't that other third-person perhaps come to the defense of the smaller and defenseless person?

If Ukraine was left to defend itself by itself, Russia would have won the war more than 3 years ago. But, other better equipped nations saw the bullying from Russia, and had to act. Thus, Russia caused others to intervene on Ukraine's side. In a sense, Russia caused the U.s. and NATO to engage in the Ukraine war. Russia did not directly way, 'hey' America, help Ukraine', but they might as well have, because that is what happened.

On what planet was that then? Chuckle. The planet which I inhabit has many intelligent people, and most of them can understand causes and effects. You don't understand causes and you don't understand effects.. You live in a planet of simple-minds, and simple minds are not capable of understanding logic and not even common sense.

Russia is being contained. That’s a huge dividend.

Whoever said that, must be very observant and very smart. ;)

Russia/Soviet Union has been contained for 80 years after WW II, mostly because of massive US economic/military input. Had nothing to do with Ukraine.

Glad you noticed.

But there is another good thing that Russia caused. And that is the creation of NATO. Without the Soviet Union/Russia, NATO would not have been created. Necessity is the mother of invention, but in this case, necessity is the mother of the military alliance known as NATO.

“Trump has realized that the only dictator in the war is Putin. And he's ordering sanctions on Russia and on those who trade with Russia. That doesn't sound like support for calling Zelensky a dictator or believing that he is one.”

Yet to hear Trump call the duly elected Putin a dictator.
Trump did call the sleazy, slimy Zellenskyy a dictator several times though and kicked Zellensky out of the White House, after cancelling the scheduled dinner for Zellenskyy.
Meanwhile Trump has ordered a 50 day wait before even considering any sanctions against Russia.
Trump is not a Putin hating creep like the loud mouth European leaders, who make a lot of noise but then were way behind in military aid when the war started.

The Russians just developed the technology before anyone else, and again America was reduced to begging the Russians for rides to the SpaceStation on Soyuz from 2011 to 2020, that's a good 9 years.
At high cost.

The Russians developed the technology at basically the same time we did. They did beat us into space, but they never made it to the moon. Whatever.

Then America chose to beg for rides; Bush and Obama decided to end the STS Orbiter program without a replacement ready to go. It wasn't that the Russians had better tech, it's just that they were still flying the old stuff. And they still are... Their space program now is basically the same as it was in the 60s. Not impressive anymore.

Zellensky canceled elections for 2 years now. As Trump said, Zellemsky’s a dictator.

Zelensky only "canceled the elections" for 90 days. Since then, it's been the Ukrainian Parliament that renews the martial law declaration, not Zelensky.

USA-FRANCE: "Trump has now confirmed that the US will dramatically increase weapons supplies to Europe for use in Ukraine..."

woodpusher: "Nothing short of nuclear weapons is significant.
Every wonder weapon has failed."

Babbling Biden's goal in Ukraine was never to help Ukraine win, but only to keep Ukraine from losing, "for as long as it takes", with the meaning of those words totally undefined.

Pres. Trump's goal was to bring about a peace deal "within 24 hours".
That didn't happen, but what did happen within 24 hours was the near elimination of official Russian threats to use nukes on Ukraine and NATO countries.
Now some six month's later, Pres. Trump has grown frustrated with mad-Vlad the Invader's "negotiations" tactics.

As for US supplied weapons, most have performed as intended and many have become favorites of Ukrainian soldiers.
Ukraine's favorites include:

  1. M-2 Bradelys
  2. M-113 APCs (for logistics & medical evac)
  3. M-777 Howitzers & 2.5 million rounds of 155 mm shells
  4. F-16s
  5. Patriots
  6. NASAMS
  7. Javelins
  8. TOWs -- outdated but cheaper & more available than Javelins
Other US weapons have not proved so helpful -- for reasons we can debate at length -- include M-1 Abrams & Stinger missiles.

woodpusher: "Nukes can create a draw where everyone loses."

Say what???!

woodpusher: "Russia's trade partners include the majority of the world."

No country outside the former Soviet Union (i.e., Belarus, Kazakhstan) does a significant amount of its foreign trade with Russia.
Countries which do the most foreign trade with Russia include,
% of foreign trade with Russia:

  1. 4% -- Turkey
  2. 2.5% -- China
  3. 3% -- Netherlands
  4. 2% -- Italy
  5. 2% -- Germany
  6. 1.3% -- Brazil
  7. 1.3% -- India
  8. 1% -- UK
  9. <1% -- US
And those numbers come from 2021, before wartime sanctions.
In 2024, India's numbers were quite different, with imports of Russian oil driving Russia up to 7% of India's total foreign trade.
Today Indians insist they are ready to deal with a cutoff of Russian oil, if necessary.

woodpusher: "What happens in 50 days?
Trump declares Taco Tuesday?"

Who knows?
Maybe mad-Vlad the Invader will finally sign the Ukraine War peace deal he apparently promised Pres. Trump "within 24 hours".

“The Russians developed the technology at basically the same time we did. They did beat us into space, but they never made it to the moon. Whatever. “

That's like saying finishing second to Usain Bolt in the Olympics finals is the same as winning the gold.
Its not.
The Russians were not just the first to go to space, the Russians were the first to send a man to space, first to orbit the earth, first to send a satellite to space/orbit the earth etc etc.
They were just better despite close to 40 years of communism at the time.

“Then America chose to beg for rides; Bush and Obama decided to end the STS Orbiter program without a replacement ready to go. “

Except the Space Shuttle was super expensive and already had two massive crashes killing all 14 US astronauts.
The old Russian Soyuz was much more reliable/safer.
No US astronauts ever died in the 9 years US astronauts flew to the SpaceStation on the Russian Soyuz.

Yet to hear Trump call the duly elected Putin a dictator.

Trump is being diplomatic, and he knows full well that Putin is a dictator, but Trump knows that he needs to deal with Putin in peace talks and with future trade negotiations.

Being diplomatic does not mean that Trump believes Putin is a nice guy, You have to deal with the devil, if the devil has any say in any matter. Putin is a dictator and fake elections do not make him any less a dictator.

It's YOU that needs to learn about how fake Russian elections are. One party and one candidate with no opposition allowed, is not a fair election on any planet, except perhaps in YOURS.

Trump did call the sleazy, slimy Zellenskyy a dictator several times though

Trump was wrong, and I'm sure he knows he's wrong. Zelensky was ELECTED, and with 70% of the vote, and I'm sure he will be elected again when the war ends.

and kicked Zellensky out of the White House,

Another big mistake. Zelensky is the leader of his country, and is also the leader respected by his people and the leader recognized by all of Europe and by most of the world.

But, have you notices that Trump is dealing with Zeleensky again, as he has to? Trump has realized that Putin can't be dealt with, and that YOUR guy is pure evil.

after cancelling the scheduled dinner for Zellenskyy.

A meaningless move. Zelensky did not come to the White House for a dinner. He came to ask for aid against the Putin invasion.

Meanwhile Trump has ordered a 50 day wait before even considering any sanctions against Russia.

The 50 days in only to get those trading with Russia to act before the 50 days. They could stop trading with Russia before the 50 days are up, or they too will face sanctions. If any of them decide to stop trading with Russia before the 50 days are up, it's the same as if sanctions were imposed immediately. The 50 days is part of the 'art of the deal' that Trump is known for. But all that is logic way beyond your capacity to understand.

Trump is not a Putin hating creep

Trump just wants to get back to the times when Russia could be dealt with and to when Russia wasn't as evil as it is today with Putin. Trump is realizing that this version of PUtin, is pure evil and way more than just a creep. People don't need to be creeps in order to notice that Putin is no better then satan. Putin is Hitler within Russia.

like the loud mouth European leaders,

What makes them loud-mouths? Being anti-Putin/anti-Russia/anti-invasion? No matter what, the EU leaders were chosen by their corresponding electorate, which is something that Putin could NEVER claim. But people like you support dictators like Putin. IN hell, the devil doesn't hold elections either, just like Putin doesn't.

who make a lot of noise but then were way behind in military aid when the war started.

Not too many thought that Putin would actually go through with the invasion, so, Zelensky and the EU were unprepared and didn't know how to react. We had a vegetable as president, so Putin know to take advantage while he could. Wrong move. Now Putin is stuck and he can't admit that he can't win. So, he's desperate and throwing missiles and drones, hoping that by killing the innocent, the Zelensky will somehow surrender Ukraine to him. Nothing is working for Putin, and now, NATO and the U.S. are rallying around Ukraine. Putin doesn't have a prayer, but then, the devil is not know as someone that believes in prayers. He's acting like a jilted lover who will kill his girlfriend and new boyfriend if he cant' have her all to himself. Ukraine is the girlfriend Putin can't have, and he's bound and determined to destroy it before he's taken out himself. YOU can be Putin's shield though, which is what YOU'VE been so far.

“Trump is being diplomatic, and he knows full well that Putin is a dictator, but Trump knows that he needs to deal with Putin in peace talks and with future trade negotiations. “

Nope.
Trump knows Putin has been consistently elected for over 20 years over several terms, as Prime Minister then President.
Zellenskyy?
Only been elected once followed by him cancelling the elections and becoming a dictator so he could steal as much US tax payer dollars as he could through the weak, hapless, demented Biden.
No more!

Nope.
Trump was right.
A lot of dictators including Hitler get elected once just like Zellensky, then cancel elections, seize power and try to rule for as long as they can, until they are overthrown.
Zellensky the dictator will be overthrown one way or another.

So don't tell us “Not too many thought that Putin would actually go through with the invasion”.

Which he didn't get because Trump cancelled the aid immediately after that Zellensky White House visit.

“The 50 days in only to get those trading with Russia to act before the 50 days. They could stop trading with Russia before the 50 days are up, or they too will face sanctions.”

Trump is NOT imposing economic sanctions against Russia within 50 days. Period.
Trump is not eager to get into war with Putin if he can help it.

Movies, books, comics, TV, popular culture etc. America just didn't have the technology to get there first. The Russians did.

That's a whole lotta hogwash. I was going to say bullshit, but I don't swear. ;)

. there was no need to go o space at the time, except for the propaganda value, which the Russians have always been good at.

When it comes to the technology, the tech was always available but not needed. Then, when the Russians decided o make space 'a thing',the U.S. got into it and surpassed Russia in virtually no time. Russia is now struggling to keep up and won't ever. All they can do is copy and steal the technology. Ever notice how their fighter jets look so similar to ours? The Chinese have also copied and stolen our technology there too. And they don't have bomber bomber planes even close to what we have. And we are coming out with the sixth generation war planes, while Russia and China are still trying to copy our fifth generation. And they can't even talk about going to Mars, while in the U.S. the plans are already being drawn up.

Rusdia has been left in the stone age of technology with no hope of ever catching up. Their war places don't even dare to go into Ukraine airspace, or they would be shot down immediately, whereas our jets (fighters and bomber) can go anywhere without even being seen. China is trying to copy, but by the time they do, we'll have the next generation warplanes already flying. Russia can't even copy, since they are persona non-grata anywhere our technology appears.
