Vegas 7-Eleven security guard sentenced to 5 to 14 years in prison for killing customer over COVID-19 protocols

A Las Vegas security guard was sentenced to spend between five and 14 years in prison for fatally shooting a customer outside a 7-Eleven convenience store during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kegia Mitchell tearfully apologized on Thursday after she entered an Alford plea for the August 2020 death of 56-year-old Thomas Martin.

“I didn’t mean to take this man’s life, I did not,” Mitchell cried out in court. “I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart.”

The deal means she doesn’t plead guilty to the murder of Martin but acknowledges that prosecutors may have enough evidence for a conviction.

Mitchell was tasked with regulating the number of customers permitted into the convenience store in Las Vegas’ northeast section on August 26 when Martin cut the line and attempted to enter.

Martin was blocked and began complaining that Mitchell was refusing to let him in while she had allowed other customers through the checkpoint.

The two began arguing as Martin cursed at the security guard, threatening Mitchell before breaking past and into the store.

Mitchell grabbed the angry customer and the two shoved each other before she took out a handgun and pointed it at Martin’s face, according to security footage of the incident.

The armed security guard led Martin out of the store with her gun inches from his head.

Martin turned around and attempted to swat the gun out of Mitchell’s hands when a shot rang out.

Mitchell, who failed her first firearms safety training, was gifted the gun for Mother’s Day, according to the outlet.

She was arrested and charged with open murder.

A grand jury later indicted her for murder with a deadly weapon.

The charges were changed to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault when Mitchell signed the Alford plea in April.

At least she enforced social distancing.

Had she let him enter, dozens of customers might have died of Covid.

I actually feel sorry for this security guard

Its very difficult to keep one’s humanity and common sense when government and politicians have whipped the country into a state of madness

I’ve met German SS members, and I’ve met holocaust survivors. I’ve met former Chinese Red Guards (although none will admit it) and I’ve met Chinese who were persecuted by them.

In all such cases - blame the state and its leaders, above all.

No reason to pull a gun in the first place. Beyond that, just a guess: Her finger was on the trigger, and not where it should have been (as seen below).

If he had gone into the store with a lit cigarette, the security guard would probably have beat the rap.

/ SocialIST distancing was. dreamed up by a 6th grader, guess I’m the only one who remembers seeing her say that on national news show while covering her worthless homemade mask idea and endeavor.

Still believe those lies ?

So, the murderer is actually the hero ?

Smdh.

I hardly ever watch any South Park and most of it is far too rough for me to watch. Lately some SP clips have come up in my Youtube feeds.

One of them was Eric Cartman’s song of social distancing. I love it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=379oevm2fho

There are the usual language and other SP related warnings.

I think you missed the sarc tag. If not, you know that the deceased had a cold?

SocialIST distancing was. dreamed up by a 6th grader,

No, it was from research study of average spitting distance from approx the 1910’s. average spitting distance was 6 ft, meaning half could spit further.

correlation then to infection perimeter. have a friend who writes microbiology books.

He had no business cutting in line, and no business refusing to leave the store, and definitely no business in turning around and trying to swat at an armed security guard, because at that point you are asking for it. He gets no sympathy from me.

He was extra stupid, and FAFO. Apparently she was untrained. He should have walked away rather than take a swipe.

Stupid vs stupid is a situation best avoided in the first place.

Charge her with just excessive use of force, if the guy hadn’t been an arsehole she wouldn’t be in court. Then give her more training and a job guarding the MS13 deportees’ compound at Alligator Alcatraz in case the alligators aren’t dangerous enough.

Sigh ....

Arrogant stupidity plus ignorant stupidity plus a gun equals a dead idiot plus an incarcerated idiot.

Sad, really.

Given the description of events If it were up to me I would let her off. Except-> If she failed the firearms test why was she armed? The gun is hers, not her employer’s which would suggest that she was an Unarmed Security Guard and was not permitted by her job to have a gun. If her employer allowed the gun after failing the gun test then the employer should have some liability come lawsuit time. I have been a security guard, armed and unarmed, for some years and know the rules in, at least, Florida.
