Yep.
LOL!
Miss him.
I like my cd’s as well. Having them means nobody can take them away.
You only see old farts looking at the CD’s at Goodwill. As a side note, it is a shame how many times the case is empty as someone gets two CD’s for the price of one. It is pretty bad when you steal from Goodwill.
it’s a Yahoo article which are mostly wrong on everything.
I kind of remember Live aid, don’t remember why but the music is still good.
So the money raised didn’t do what it was suppose to do because the productor didn’t do due diligence.
Africa has always been a hole to throw money in.
Yes. Think Dwight Yoakam, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Line dancing, cowboy hats, Boot Barn, etc.. It seemed like every one went Country in 90's. It was funny to watch as an older Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings and Loretta Lynn fan years before.
Interestingly, I was probably one of a few in a bar/club that could actually saddle and ride a horse. I was asked a number of times what the string on my hat in the back was for. Do you know?
“According to Medicins Sans Frontiers, who begged Geldof to not release the money until there was a reliable infrastructure to get it to victims, he simply ignored them. “
WHY the HELL would Geldof do that? WHY? Why wouldn’t he listen to people in the field or simply use his own experience knowing what these dictators are like?
As a child of the 50’s & 60’s when rock & roll was born, there hasn’t been any good music after the mid-80’s anyway.
CDs are no good for music with dynamic range. The music you listen to was almost certainly compressed for CD playback.
Streaming is worse.
Analog is best (LPs). That’s why the classical folks hate CDs.
But if you want to discover new music, Spotify can’t be beat, especially if you can write some code and use the API.
YMMV…
Well to be fair it’s not like the experts were getting results. He was seeing people starving to death and the experts, which he did go to, kept saying variations of “there’s nothing we can do”. It’s easy to say “hold on to the money until there is an infrastructure” but who was building that infrastructure? How were they going to build it without the dictators approval? So he ignored the experts that were getting no results and didn’t get results either. But really if he’d held onto the money what would that have done? Land him in a scandal 5 years later when people find out the money is just sitting in a bank? He did do other stuff, including funding a lot of these organizations. In the end Ethiopia is just too jacked up for anybody to fix.
asked a number of times what the string on my hat in the back was for. Do you know?
Have a WAG, but I would rather ask and know…😉
LOL!
Hmmmm. No Eddie Van Halen on the roster. His most famous at the time was in 1984 - “Jump.”

Eritrea, Darfur. And way back in the day Biafra. I guess these periodic famines and crises are all artifacts of colonialism…. /sarcasm…
Some big names there but a lot of B-listers and one-hit wonders too.
The whole Queen set from Live Aid was the inspiration of a highly successful movie in 2018. WTF are you talking about. Most on that list are still making bank on residuals.
I think God gave me a healthy scope of sarcasm and cynicism to protect me from crap like this.
Most of the great music from the 60s and very early 70s did not come from the boomers but from the previous generation.
Indeed…
The career of the writer, Mr. Chesterton, began at The Independent and The Guardian, where he honed his skills as a production editor. He later moved to GQ, serving as Managing Editor and Political Editor for eight years.
As the saying goes, those who can, do,
Those who can’t, become journalists and whine online.
Sod off, Mr. Chesterton. How many lives have you tried to save? What was your last sold-out concert?
I’ll wait.
