“Does the flight data recorder say the same thing? I suppose it’s not physically impossible that it happened during the crash. Not very likely, but I’d want to see agreement between their physical position and what the recorder says.”

Ignore delta7. He is often wrong or misleading. The data IS from the FDR.

Please note that the caption does not say found, he says ‘were placed’.

More data was released indicating one of the crew members put them back to run. One engine restarted but the other did not.

“ Is the fuel cutoff switch right next to the retract landing gear switch?”

They are in the same cockpit.

In the interim report that was just released, the plane had liftoff and reached its maximum speed about 4 seconds later. Then (according to black box data) both fuel cutoff switches were changed from Run to Cutoff, one after the other within 1 second of each other. position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec. One of the pilots is heard asking the other, “Why did you cutoff.” The other pilot said “I didn’t.” The report doesn’t say which pilot said what. Switches were turned back to Run, with a couple of seconds between the two.

I hope it was clear enough for them to determine which one.

LOL!

WSJ: Indian authorities confirmed that fuel-control switches on an Air India flight that crashed in June had been turned off shortly after takeoff, but said they had been turned back on before impact.

Seeing some Youtube channels on this, and it is said that the Data Recorder said they were moved from “Run” to “Cut-off” just as they were just getting airborne. So it was done intentionally.

On vid said that the 787’s instructions if a flame out occurs to one or both engines is to cycle the Run/Cut-off switches in one second to see if that will reignite them.

That may be the case but forgot to put it back into “Run” with all that was happening.

The only other explanation would be a murder / suicide, taking everyone with him.

countries can be protective of their pilots. there was an Egyptian pilot who did a suicide crash of a plane. he had been accused of sexual misconduct before he did this. To this day Egypt claims he is innocent and blames the aircraft for malfunctioning.

“That may be the case but forgot to put it back into “Run” with all that was happening.”

That is something a pilot would not forget to do.

If there was a duel engine failure on pilot would not be asking the other why he did it.

Soon after the switches went to cut out they were returned to run. The delay was longer than just cycling the switches for a restart after failure.

One engine restarted, the other was relit but failed to start.

Without the MM’s, not sure where or which fuel valves, the Fire T handles usually control the fuel spar valves, the fuel cut off switches usually control the fuel control on the engine ( FMU).

“the fuel cut off switches usually control the fuel control on the engine”

Thanks. Now I know why the first step in my portable generator starting instruction is to set the fuel cutoff to run.
