Senate GOP campaign arm hits Paxton over divorce

The Senate GOP’s campaign committee swung at Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) on Thursday after news broke that his wife, Angela Paxton, had filed for divorce.

“What Ken Paxton has put his family through is truly repulsive and disgusting,” National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez said. “No one should have to endure what Angela Paxton has, and we pray for her as she chooses to stand up for herself and her family during this difficult time.”

Ken Paxton is looking to topple Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), with one poll in June showing the incumbent trailing the state attorney general by 22 points. The NRSC endorsed Cornyn in the 2026 race and generally supports incumbents.

One NRSC staffer touted Cornyn’s marriage on the social platform X, posting a heart in a reply to a 2022 post from Cornyn celebrating their anniversary.

Angela Paxton wrote on social media Thursday that she was filing for divorce on “biblical grounds” after 38 years of marriage

My enthusiasm has waned but I’d prefer him over Cornyn.

I blame NO ONE but him for this and am sickened by the attacks on his wife. The implication that she should continue to tolerate this abuse, here on “conservative” FR, is disgusting.

The political parties are not recruiting decent people to run for office, even if they try to present that narrative when they are running. If I lived in TX , I would still be voting for Paxton since Cornyn has had his chances and failed.

I remarked this morning that the divorce filing was arranged and paid for by Cornyn and his capos, and that they were going to destroy Ken Paxton. It didn’t take long for round 2 to drop. Prepare for much, much more.

I agree. If she really wanted to hurt his political future, she would have waited until next year.

She’s the victim, not Ken.

His only possible defense is if she was withholding sex. Even then, he should have divorced her before any affair.

If Paxton wins the primary, I will vote for him, but I’d prefer another person to take Cornyn down.

The Paxtons are rumored to have been living apart for almost a year, so I’d say the marriage has been over for quite awhile. She is a state senator-so of course the breakup is going to be the subject du jour of every scandal peddler in the media and every podcast. Paxton has/had a mistress-not good, but not a BFD-it isn’t like he was boffing interns less than half his age like Bill Clinton and about half of the guys in congress. This happens to ordinary people every day-marriages sometimes end in divorce-I’ve been there, maybe you have, too-the rock throwing and howling adulterer, sinner is just hypocrisy and drama, in my opinion. No one is a saint...
