Trump's tariffs on Brazil could make your coffee even more expensive
5 Chicago NBC ^ | 7/10/25 | Amelia Lucas

President Donald Trump's proposed 50% tariff on Brazilian imports is bad news for coffee drinkers.

Brazil, the largest U.S. supplier of green coffee beans, accounts for about a third of the country's total supply, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Coffee beans need to grow in a warm, tropical climate, making Hawaii and Puerto Rico the only suitable places in the United States to farm the crop. But, as the world's top consumer of coffee, the U.S. requires a massive supply to stay caffeinated. Mintel estimates that the U.S. coffee market reached $19.75 billion last year.

Have a friend who is a big Starbucks drinker and only watches liberal msm, and he is spitting nails, saying Trump is akin to the anti-christ.

Tried to tell him that there is a 90% chance that Brazil will cave. Goes through one ear and out the other.

NBC5 Chicago should be a lot more concerned with what their crackpot socialist mayor is doing to the city.

But, marching orders are marching orders.

Don’t care. Brazil (the B in BRICS) needs to be brought down a few notches.

What do you mean even more expensive, kemosabe? What made it so expensive before the tarriffs?

The news media in Chicago is there to protect the political ruling class in the state and city. Not allowed to ask the Mayor of the fat lard Governor any hard questions or they will not be asked back.

It means importers will buy more from Columbia and some other countries, and likely not paying more for the exporting growers would likely enjoy getting more dollars than the other currencies than they get from other buying countries.

The number 1 Buyer in the world controls the market, not the sellers.

We can get coffee elsewhere, they can’t sell that coffee volume to someone else.

Ask anyone that done business with Walmart. You don’t tell Walmart terms, they tell you.

It won’t.
Brazil is 35%, so that means 65% won’t be affected.
That amount would increase once Brazil is out of the game.

My wife and I use either the Kirkland brand keurig cups or the Kirkland brand columbian. So far they are rock solid on price.

But I’ll pay more to do “my part” to get our economy back in order. It’s a small price to pay.

Brazil is not the only big coffee producing nation. Columbia & Vietnam are also large coffee producers.

So, what tariffs is Brazil putting on us? Maybe we should take one for Team U.S.A. and let Brazil choke on their coffee beans.
