The contentious migrant effigies at the heart of a racism storm in Belfast have been set alight after police have made a decision not to assist Belfast City Council in helping contractors remove material from a bonfire site in the city.
A Belfast City Council committee voted on Wednesday to send contractors to remove the towering pyre on Meridi Street off the Donegall Road. Belfast DUP councillors have launched a ‘call-in’ procedure over the planned removal of the controversial bonfire.
The move comes in the wake of a vote at City Hall to remove the bonfire off the Donegall Road which has sparked a row amid the presence of asbestos close-by and concerns it could disrupt power supply to both the Royal and City Hospitals.
With just a day to go before the bonfire at Monarch Street is lit, there have been ongoing legal and political efforts to resolve the situation. Earlier today, a car was parked across one entrance to the bonfire site. It is unclear if the move was intended to block access to the site.
On Wednesday night, the PSNI declared it a “major incident” as the force considered a request from the council to help contractors remove it.
In a statement on Thursday evening, police said: “The PSNI has taken the decision not to assist a request from Belfast City Council for the removal of material from a south Belfast bonfire site.
“Following comprehensive engagement with all relevant stakeholders, an evidence based assessment, and taking into consideration all of the risks associated with the removal, we have determined that police should not assist the proposed actions of Belfast City Council.
“This decision, which involved an examination of the legality, necessity and proportionality of the police involvement in the proposed action by Belfast City Council.
“This involved carefully balancing potentially competing statutory and human rights obligations.”
Meanwhile a loyalist bonfire in Co Tyrone controversially topped with an effigy of migrants in a boat has been lit. The controversial bonfire in Moygashel, near Dungannon, featured a small boat with a number of mannequins wearing life-jackets inside it.
Separately the loyalist Corcrain Redmanville bonfire was also lit in Portadown on Thursday night. Firefighters were on site dampening down neighbouring houses close to the Co Armagh pyre.
Rosie O’Donnell may be starting to wonder: “Did I, like, make a big mistake moving to Ireland to escape Trump’s America? Let’s give it a few more months, and then evaluate.”
You can call them “migrants”, and call the native people “racist” all you want. People are fed up with this and are finally doing something they should have done a long time ago. It should get to the point the invaders are literally running back home.
They usually burn the Irish flag and posters of Catholic politicians or the Pope.

It’s now or never. Once Moslems reach critical mass you are screwed.
Yes, like Australia.

critical mass…
There is no nice way to rid a house of an infestation of roaches, and even one roach is too many. 🪳 🪳 🪳 🪳 🪳
The nationalists and loyalists now have common cause.
Well, that ought to burn real quick like. Pallets make for good, hot fires.
We may be witnessing the one thing that can unite Ulster’s Catholics and Protestants.
“It should get to the point the invaders are literally running back home.”
The ones that they really should go afters are the natives that allowed and promoted the invasion. IOW the enemy within. That’s the real problem.
Same here.
The one in Co Tyrone was set afire and the “authorities” are all in a tizzy.
Finally! I hope it is not too late.
The Belfast in Ireland, not Maine.
How about a Wickerman stuffed with a selection of the invader as an expression of traditional Celtic culture?
The racism is with the government openly importing a replacement population without the consent of the native population that is marked out for replacement.
