When President Trump announced tariffs in April, officials in Kazakhstan were surprised to see their country on the list.
Kazakhstan, a resource-rich country that borders Russia and China, does a minimal amount of trade with the United States. And based on how Kazakh government officials interpreted Mr. Trump’s new policies, more than 90 percent of its exports to the United States would be exempt from the tariff.
American officials have spent much of the last decade promising money and support to prod the country to open up its economy, especially mining.
"Many in the region saw the U.S. as a potential counterbalance to their giant neighbors, China and Russia. Now, that good will risks souring,” said Teniz Capital, a Kazakh investment bank, in a note to its clients. “As the United States raises barriers, China and Russia are poised to capitalize on Central Asia’s search for stable partners.”
In the first five months of this year, Kazakhstan ran a trade deficit with the United States, importing twice as much in American goods as it exported.

Wasn’t Hunter Biden heavily involved with Kazakhstan ?
The natural course of Tariffs is imported goods will flow as naturally as water does downhill, towards the country with the most favorable rate, thus establishing (and enriching) the middle Nation.
We have most of what we need.
We just have to have the will to mine it here.
The initial list was all countries everywhere across the board no matter what trade was like with them. So everyone got pegged on his list.

Yeah. That’s the big problem. Everything is locked up as either a national monument or by excessive regulation that makes it not profitable to operate unless the prices you get are really high (it cost a lot of money to comply with government regulations).
Wow! More Fourth Dimensional Chess! Our Prez is a genus!
I bet we see Tenth Dimensional Chess before the end of his term!
90 percent of its exports to the United States would be exempt
Just a NY Times hit piece. Very little of what they currently export would be hit.

You left out the “ /s “ at the end of your post.
Close Chicom ally.
Good.
Are you serious or sarcastic? I can’t tell.
Sarcastic
I see how you miss the chess reference as Checkers seems more your game.😄🤡

Hey, Daisuke Wakabayashu, you don’t suppose Trump did this to get the Kazakhs’ attention, thus to start a dialogue, and hopefully achieve more better trade in both directions. Or would he have been smarter to continue with what didn’t work for the last decade?
Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked country on the globe.
Is that too difficult for NYT/Daisuke Wakabayashu to understand?
