Starmer and Macron to announce ‘one in, one out’ migration deal

Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron will announce a “one in, one out” migration deal on Thursday that will involve the UK accepting some cross-Channel asylum seekers but returning others to France.

The two leaders are expected to cap the French president’s three-day state visit to the UK with a press conference in London at which they will announce the new plan to tackle small boat crossings.

Officials were still in talks over the details of the plan on Thursday morning, including when it would begin, but other hurdles such as the opposition of other European countries are understood to have been cleared.

The announcement will come at the end of a three-day state visit – the first by a European leader since Brexit – during which the president has met King Charles and given a speech to MPs and and peers in parliament’s royal gallery.

On Wednesday, government sources in France and Britain described the negotiations as “complex” and “fluid”, with Downing Street saying it hoped to make “concrete progress” towards a deal.

One French source said the request for extra money to help pay for police on their northern coast was proving “clearly very politically sensitive”.

Under a pilot scheme, the details of which were revealed by Le Monde newspaper on Wednesday, Britain would send back only 2,600 people a year – about 6% of the total number of crossings.

The French will steal the money and do nothing, as they have before with UK money for CCTV cameras (not installed) and earlier agreements to stop boats.

The headline sounds great!

Then you read the article and realize it’s a bunch of watered-down baloney.

6% of those arriving in small boats will get pushed back. What?

According to the little math I know, that means they are devising an awesome plan that allows 94% of those arriving illegally in small boats to stay?

That’s the solution?

Did I misread that?

Swapping deck chairs on the Titanic.

That was my same thought. Which European government will be first overthrown by Islamists? Britain and France are good candidates, but I'll place my bet on Belgium.

20 years ago, I would have said France.

Now I'll say the UK. It's an Orwellian place. They want to be conquered. So they're first in line.

At least in France, they are still proud of being French.

In the UK, you don't really have anyone except for Tommy Robinson and they're giving him a hard time.

Rearranging chairs (with embedded bombs) on the Titanic.
Suggestion: one in, 100,000 out. And not shuffling them among European
Countries but rather repatriating them to their own homelands

Uh, they pulled out of the EU so they would NOT be conquered by immigration.

Ironically, yes.

The British citizens voted for the Conservative Party to be tougher on immigration. Of course that was not what happened.

I’ve read that Britain’s population is close to 10% moslem. If that’s true it doesn’t bode well for civilized Brits.

I understand why the French don’t want to keep the ‘newcomers’, but what is so terrible about France to justify people (mostly military-aged young men) demanding to be allowed to sail to England? Of course France lets them hang out in camps while the U.K puts them up in hotels, caters their meals and gives them walk-around money and access to young English girls.

‘one in, one out’ migration deal

‘one in, one hundred out’ might not be enough.

Of course, this is completely out-of-line with what the British people want. They need people GONE. What kind of deal is this? Why does deporting have to have any sort of compromise?
