Miranda Devine: Susie Wiles brings calm to Trump admin — helping the president rack up wins

Donald Trump calls her the “Ice Maiden.” But in person, the very private White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is warm and hospitable — as long as you don’t cross her. She didn’t become the most powerful woman in the world without a determined glint in her eye that can silence the most spirited cabinet member.

Wiles, 68, has brought a sense of order and calm to Trump’s second presidency, which has given him the space to notch up wins at breakneck speed.

In a rare interview on our new podcast, “Pod Force One,” she explained how she does it.

“I gave a piece of advice to myself when I started this job,” she told us this week in her large, sunny office in the West Wing, down the hall from the Oval Office.

“I am the chief of staff. I’m not the chief of Donald Trump.”

She starts early each day with a security briefing, followed by a 7:30 a.m. staff meeting in her office with deputies including Stephen Miller, Taylor Auerbach and James Blair at the big conference table that stands in front of French doors that lead to a prized private patio where she held a “cigar party” after she moved in.

Trump needs to be able to get action from Congress.

The legal tools he has are inadequate. It’s like trying to do brain surgery with a hacksaw blade.

So happy to see Steven Miller at the epicenter of power in the White House. That dude has been 100% based since high school, and the massive ICE resurgence is no doubt a result of his efforts. Steven is the one who convinced Trump to hire Tom Homan in the first term, and again in the 2nd.

Swampie Susie is behind much of the slavish devotion to Israel as well as the attempted cover up of the Epstein list.

I’m concerned about the Israeli influence (control?) over the US but how do you know that? Not challenging you, just curious. I don’t know much about Wiles.

No doubt they are a big impediment to progress. But in our system of government, it's really hard to work with them, and they're all pretty crafty about knowing where they have leverage and where they don't.

I've been reading a book about Augustus, who was the first Roman emperor. He had to deal with a government made of a Senate that was probably not dissimilar than our Congress today-very focused on what they could personally obtain from the government with their powerful positions. Of course, he had the benefit of being in charge of his own army. Still it took him almost 20 years of various civil wars before he finally took over. As it turns out, with Augustus as emperor, the people were better off than they were before- the entered the age of the Pax Romana.

That just goes to show that democracy is only as good as the people who are elected.

“But when people ask Wiles what the hardest thing is about her job, she replies: “Here’s what’s not hard about my job: Donald Trump. He is predictable and open and approachable and honest and honorable and committed and all of those things, which does not mean he can’t be irritated or frustrated, but I view my job as trying to keep as much of that away from him so that he can think clearly about the big picture. We’ll take care of the back office.”

It was pointed out recently that she actually lived in Israel in 2020, working on Bibi’s campaign at the time. Some see her as Trump’s Mossad gatekeeper.

If it’s true that Susie Wiles is pro-Israel, I’m happy to hear it. Smart lady.

What does “slavish devotion to Israel mean?”

Multiple news outlets reported that State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a May 2025 interview with i24NEWS that the United States is the “greatest country on Earth next to Israel”.

I have no idea as to Susan Wiles's ideology or her religious beliefs, although I understand that both her parents were Protestant. However, what it is troubling is her citation of what President Trump read. She stated that he reads the New York Post, he Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, and sometimes the Washington Post. And anything else that comes his way, the Financial Times and all of the periodicals. That indicates that the President's main information sources are the legacy media with the best one, the New York Post, being neo-conservative at most.

Unfortunately, this indicates that Trump is still somewhat wedded to his Boomer roots. That may explain the attempt to denounce and deny the existence of the Epstein files. In his youth, young man, and middle aged man periods, the legacy media dominated the information landscape. William Buckley and later Rush Limbaugh were gatekeepers to keep recalcitrant conservatives more or less on the plantation. However, the legacy media is a weak shadow of its former dominance and Buckley and Limbaugh are no longer with us. The ability to have the public swallow stories like the "magic bullet" of JFK assassination fame, the "weapons of mass destruction" to justify the second Iraq war, etc., is greatly diminished.

Somehow I missed this FR story posted 4 days ago.

It's a terrific Miranda Devine story where Chief of Staff Suzy Wiles shares with many insightful comments how the White House works plus Trump's terrific leadership style and work ethic.

God bless this hard-working and highly organized woman. Every Freeper deserves to read the inside scoop on how the best American Presidency is managed and keeps delivering for We the People.

History is in the making, my FRiends.  America is truly blessed.

______

I ran your words through Perplexity AI. Tammy Bruce said this in an interview with Israeli news TV and was said in a joking manner.

No matter what context, no state department employee should ever say such a thing. A lot of the globalist rats in Foggy Bottom do not grasp that they are there to represent America and American national interests. Even if she actually did say it jokingly, that was exceptionally stupid and inappropriate.
