Flights at several major airports from New York to Dallas have been grounded Tuesday evening, sending air travel throughout the US into chaos.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced ground stops for flights leaving New York's John F Kennedy Airport, New Jersey's Newark Liberty Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Severe thunderstorms throughout the country caused to temporary pause. A ground delay at Philadelphia International Airport and New York's LaGuardia Airport has also been issued through Tuesday night.

Flights at both JFK and Newark have been grounded until at least 5:15pm ET. Meanwhile, flights in the Baltimore and Washington area have been grounded until 5:30pm.

Each of the airports the FAA has issued a ground stop for also has a ground delay which stretches overnight into Wednesday, July 9.

As of 4:30pm ET, only Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) did not have a ground delay issued due to the oncoming storms.

Delays along the East Coast already snarled travel plans by Tuesday afternoon, with wait times at JFK, LaGuardia (LGA), and Newark (EWR) already surpassing two hours.

This is the second major weather delay at America's airports in just over a week. On June 30, a massive weather system grounded thousands of flights along the East Coast for hours.

The poor weather has also grounded flights at Denver International Airport due to thunderstorms, stopping travel until at least 5:30pm ET.

The FAA has also added Dulles International Airport in Virginia to the growing list of the major travel hubs stopped until at least 5:30pm.

As delays continue to mount, cancellations are likely to follow. As of 5pm, over 1,100 flights throughout the US had been cancelled on Tuesday.

Over 26,000 flights have experienced some sort...

Why can't anyone write a headline. Some like "Severe thunderstorms ground flights and multiple airports."

This is a frequent thing every summer, and definitely Trump's fault because Trump's nonchalance about climate change is leading to violent thunderstorms we never had before.

“Why can’t anyone write a headline. Some like “Severe thunderstorms ground flights and multiple airports.””

Because they want people to read the headlines only and think Trump’s FAA is in chaos.

“Travel chaos as multiple major US airports ground ALL flights...(due to) severe thunderstorms throughout the country.”

Less than 1 MONTH after Trump CANCELLED our effort to combat Global Warming. Cause and effect? You decide.

Is business air travel really necessary? I would have thought that the pandemic would have taught businesspeople around the world “to let your electrons do the flying.” (For the three of you who lived under a rock for fifty years, this is a play on the Bell System slogan “let your fingers do the walking in the Yellow pages.)

Why should a flight from Atlanta to Dallas be cancelled?

How about a flight from Atlanta to Mexico City?

Ground every flight because of a pocket of rain is justification. Poor California, not flights for you!

My daughter’s flight from Vancouver was delayed due to wildfires the other day. Imagine the headlines if Trump controlled Canadian airports.

Every time I have to fly and take off my shoes, I wish anew that I would have had the chance to be on that plane with the “Shoe Bomber” so I could have put my hands around his throat and finished him off then.

It would have been in self defense, of course.
