Summary

WASHINGTON, July 6 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump called Elon Musk's plans to form a new political party "ridiculous," saying Musk could have fun with his new project but that the United States functions best under a two-party system.

A day after Musk escalated his feud with Trump and announced the formation of a new U.S. political party, the Republican president was asked about it before boarding Air Force One in Morristown, New Jersey, as he returned to Washington upon visiting his nearby golf club.

"I think it's ridiculous to start a third party. We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it's always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion," Trump told reporters. "It really seems to have been developed for two parties. Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous."

Musk announced on Saturday that he is establishing the "America Party" in response to Trump's tax-cut and spending bill, which Musk said would bankrupt the country.

In response, investment firm Azoria Partners, which had planned to launch a fund tied to Musk's electric automaker Tesla (TSLA.O) said it was delaying the venture because the party's creation posed "a conflict with his full-time responsibilities as CEO."

Musk, who served as a top adviser to Trump on downsizing and reshaping the federal government during...

It is only going to help the left wing Democrats. If anything it will drain away some Conservative voters who do not like the slow progress that Congress is making.

It may well attract many disaffected Democrats, more so than Republicans.

Democrat politicians have gone nuts to appeal to the base, but there’s quite a few Democrats near the middle who admire Musk.

Obviously, the political landscape is still quite fluid in the middle.

Come to America on a student visa, get an H1b work visa, become a U.S. citizen, take advantage of gullible people who bought into the climate change and green energy hoax, and make yourself rich. Expand your opportunities and get even wealthier. Then use that money to try to destroy the country that gave you your chance to make something of yourself.

I admire Musk.
I understand his frustration.
He is a CEO. His word is Gods word.
Trump has to deal with a legislative system.
Two different things.
This party ain’t going anywhere.

I envision it as attracting Chris Christie, Tom Tillis, John Kasich and supporters of Jeb Bush. Charisma in the stratosphere. /s

Musk doesn’t know how dirty and hard a blood sport politics can be.

Maybe Trump learned how to keep opponents off ballots when the Dems tried it on him. Went to school on it.

It is still a BAD thing for Musk to do.

Good answer and he’s absolutely right..Heck go look at whose the CEO of the “America Party” its some Indian dude..Elon wants to import thousands of Indian workers to America. Now if he wants to help elect Republicans who are more Conservative that’s fine and dandy, but dont split the party into two it will ONLY help the commies win

Elon is, was and will always be about Elon. He kisses the appropriate backside to get what he wants, regardless of whose in office, as he has for the past 15 plus years. At least he’s consistent in his MO. He’s the ultimate capitalist, narcissist and elitist. So, leaving all that aside, no surprise. And yes, it will hurt the Republican traditionalists who may have believed in him, but he was never interested in them anyway. He’s a stone to the bone Libertarian, with an amoral streak. Really. My two cents.

I think the name Traitors Party is more appropriate.

Think of how things have changed.
Dems loved Musk for the EVs.
Then hated and despised him for helping Trump.
Now we hate Musk for being a turncoat lunatic siphoning off support when we’re working to save America.

“””It is still a BAD thing for Musk to do.”””

I believe Musk relies on trainloads of subsidies from the government. Does he think President Trump couldn’t and wouldn’t tear him down?

Scumbags.

Guess I was onto something.

E. Jean Carroll can donate some millions.

And as in the movie Wicked:
Soros to Musk: Think of what we can do....together.

Exactly, Musk is way out of bounds on this. Dumb ass move unless he wants the Dems to win from now on.

Musk's political party will be a glue trap for weirdos. I don't see a downside. Probably Bill Kristol was the first to sign up.

If Musk was mad there weren’t enough layoffs and cost cutting cuts in the budgets in the Big Beautiful Bill, how will this look to the average voter?

Promising more layoffs?
Promising everyone’s services and benefits will be cut drastically to balance the budget?

Gee, sounds swell. /s

Elections are won by voters always listening to WIIFM radio.
Which stands for “What’s—In—It—For—Me?” 📻
