On July 3, Putin and Trump held a phone conversation

WASHINGTON, July 5. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump acknowledged that Russia has been able to cope with the sanctions imposed on it and called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a professional.

"We talk about sanctions a lot," the US leader told reporters, recalling his July 3 telephone conversation with Putin.

"He has been able to manage sanctions," Trump said, referring to his Russian counterpart. "But these are pretty binding sanctions," he added, referring to the possibility of new anti-Russian restrictions in connection with the conflict in Ukraine. "Now we talk about sanctions a lot. He [the Russian president] understands that it may be coming. He is a professional," the US head of state said. "It may be coming," Trump reiterated. In his opinion, the Russian president is "not thrilled" about this possibility.

"I think I'm tougher in Russia than I am on Iran," the US president noted.

On July 3, Putin and Trump held a phone conversation. It was their fourth conversation in a month and a half and their sixth since the beginning of the year. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov told reporters that the telephone conversation between the Russian and US leaders lasted almost an hour. The two leaders discussed the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, among other issues. Additionally, during the conversation, Putin and Trump discussed the possibility of exchanging films that promote the traditional values shared by Russia and the US presidential administration.

Compare his relationships with rocket man and Xi. Buttering them up after dissing them. Carrot and stick on different levels.

Puppet Brandon could never have functioned in this way, with this level of creativity, toward Russia.

Putin has not coped with sanctions well.

He has lost lots and lots of his industrial capability simply because he can’t get the stuff he needs any more. He can’t fo instance manufacture an automobile. That includes models of the USSR Lada.

Russia is now on a War Economy with most manufacturing creating war materials. The banking business is in shambles with effective interest rates of as high as 30+percent. That makes business loans out of the question. Russia has seen inflation grow placing it in the ranks of Argentina and Turkey. Basket cases

While sanctions are not a problem, lots of imported food no longer exists. Even the staple of common potatoes is now scarce.

Xi has been demoted and no longer calls the shots. The CMC & General Zhang Youxia is on top right now, but how long that lasts is unknown as heavy infighting is underway.

500 long-range drones per night say that there is still a bit of spunk left in Russia.

Even if true (no evidence that I’ve seen), Putin still has China to help him out. We have the EU...meaning virtually nothing to help us.

Trump realizes the strategic importance of balancing Russia and China, which was been American policy since Nixon. He’s returning to that.

I fully expect some back room deals to be made. What we know:

- Vlad isn’t leaving the ethnic Russian provinces he currently has.
- The EU needs Russian energy.
- The West has imposed 17 sanction packages to date, none crippling.
- Ukraine’s situation on the battlefield is not good, Vlad continues to gobble up territory all along the front.
- Both sides will do anything to avoid the perception of losing.

Outcome? No idea, but what ever it is will be somehow spun as a win for the West.

President Trump said late Thursday that he is “very disappointed” with the conversation he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin and reiterated that he made “no progress” in ending the three-year war in Eastern Europe.

“I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin, because I don’t think he’s there. I’m just saying, I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad,” Trump told reporters late Thursday night after landing back in Washington after his rally in Des Moines, Iowa.

Trump also told reporters he plans to speak to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday.

Earlier Thursday, Trump said he made “no progress” during his call with Putin in brokering a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

“We had a call. It was a pretty long call. Talked about a lot of things, including Iran. And we also talked about, as you know, the war with Ukraine, and I’m not happy about that,” Trump said in the gaggle with journalists.
