Frantic Search for the Missing After At Least 13 Killed in Texas Flood

The authorities confirmed that 20 girls were still missing as a result of the flooding along the Guadalupe River, but the full scope of the disaster was not clear.

Frantic searches were underway for people who were missing in Central Texas after heavy rain set off deadly flooding along the Guadalupe River on Friday, authorities said.

A summer camp for girls along the river in Hunt, Texas, told parents on Friday morning that not all of its campers were accounted for after “catastrophic” flooding overnight.

In nearby Kerrville, some people huddled inside a church’s activity center, and others looked distraught, shivering under blankets.

Authorities in Kerr County, northwest of San Antonio, said that people had died in the flooding, though they declined to say how many or disclose further details until the victims’ relatives could be notified. “The entire county is an extremely active scene,” the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Residents are encouraged to shelter in place and not attempt travel. Those near creeks, streams and the Guadalupe River should immediately move to higher ground.”

The scope of the disaster was not immediately clear, but Texans on Friday were bracing for the worst. Camp Mystic, which has multiple campsites along the river, said it was working with search and rescue teams, but was struggling to get more help to campers since the nearby highway had washed away.

In Kerrville, Brian Eads, 52, was hoping for information about his wife, Katherine, after aggressive floodwaters ravaged their trailer at around 3:30 a.m. “I have no idea if she’s made it,” Mr. Eads said. “We both got swept away, and then I lost her.”

The couple were awakened by rushing waters, and managed to escape with a man driving a recreational vehicle. But the water caught up...

They were asleep and it probably wasn’t raining much there. It was upstream to the west of them.

Gross competence. Someone should have been watching the weather. I’m about 2-2.5 hours north and it rained so hard and fast street intersection and roads flooded within minutes of starting.

Wait for it...”Trump cut weather service people and funding.” You know it’s coming.

It rained, its common sense for an area that is prone to flooding near a river to well, not be near a river during heavy rain, I think the whole area had heavy rain, its just terrible those poor kids I hope they can be found alive

As you know, flash floods can originate miles or tens of miles upriver. You may not be in the heavy rainfall area, but you are in danger if you are near the river.

The storm was forecast to move through but it didn’t, had it done so the rain would have been spread over a much wider area and the flooding would not have been concentrated.

Even in Indiana flash floods happen. I saw a thre foot wall of water sweep across bottom land adjacent to a creek because of heavy rain several miles upstream.

Sleeping in floodplains is gambling with your life.

My God 💔 Prayers needed…

🚨 SITREP: Texas Flooding and Missing Girls from Camp Mystic

• Catastrophic flash flooding hit Kerr County, Texas, along the Guadalupe River after 10-12 inches of rain fell overnight last night, causing the river to surge 26 feet in 45 minutes.

- Casualties: At least 13 confirmed deaths, including children.

- Missing: 23 girls from Camp Mystic (Hunt, TX) unaccounted for out of 750 campers; four named (Renee Smajstrla, Eloise Peck, Lila Bonner, Lainey Landry). A family of five also missing from a Kerrville RV park.

I am seeing reports that some girls have been rescued. (Second & third attachment)

- Damage: Widespread destruction in Kerrville, Hunt, Ingram, and Comfort, with washed-out roads, flooded camp cabins, and an engulfed RV park.

- Over 400-500 personnel (Texas Game Wardens, National Guard, Texas A&M Task Force 1) using helicopters, drones, and boats for search and rescue.

- Governor Abbott deployed state resources; President Trump pledged federal aid.

- Reunification point at Walmart (Kerrville); shelter at Comfort High School.
- Camp Mystic evacuated and coordinating with families.

There was LITTLE to NO WARNING whatsoever, causing outrage amongst citizens..
