Trump threatens to unleash DOGE on Musk to save money tied to his numerous federal subsidies: ‘Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history’

President Trump threatened to unleash Elon Musk’s brainchild, DOGE, against him to investigate his company’s government subsidies — warning his former ally that he may have “to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”

“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate,” the president posted on Truth Social early Tuesday.

“It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one.”

The commander-in-chief then warned the SpaceX CEO that if his government subsidies were taken away, he’d have no choice but to return to his native South Africa.

“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump wrote.

“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE.”

Doubling down on the threat, Trump said he may turn DOGE against Musk to investigate his government subsidies.

“Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!” Trump concluded.

So Trump now clues in that the guy he put in charge of DOGE was the biggest subsidy beneficiary of them all who “hates” government waste unless it’s the kind making him richer than Crassus. You knew this was coming the day he brought him on stage.

Doesn’t this examination of and ending of most or all of these massive subsidies have to be done as just normal running of good government and without any involvement in buying of political favor of “”help me and I’ll make you rich with subsidies, don’t help me and we practice good government””?

How can this be used as a threat or reward?

Amusing.

If the bill passes, BBB will be America’s credit rating in a few years.

Yes, and that's not what Musk is complaining about now - his concern is that this bill raises the debt ceiling to $5 trillion and guarantees increased spending. My specific concerns are that it continues to provide Medicaid to illegal aliens, it does nothing to preserve our 2nd amendment freedoms and does nothing to deter foreign remittances.

Musk's concerns are legitimate, and any conservative should share those concerns. But I don't know that anything better is possible in Washington.

Elon Musk is a valuable Presidential associate. He can deliver a message the President wants in public but can not deliver it himself.

BTW...... The EV subsidy was not paid to Tesla, it was paid to the buyers of Teslas if they paid enought income taxes to receive a credit

Thank the RINO Senators for that. That was not in the original BBB.

No, now we just need Trump’s relationship with the rest of Big Tech (and Big Pharma and Big Military and Big Amnesty for Illegals) to blow up!

As much as I love Trump, he has a petty, vindictive side and will turn on his allies the moment they aren’t 100% loyal. Here is an example of that.

Elon is right about the BBB, but so is Trump regarding electric car mandates and subsidies. SpaceX though is strategically important for MAGA. SpaceX can probably survive just fine without subsidies, but it earns every penny it receives for its commercial and military launch services. Trump should come out and say that Elon is correct about the BBB being too big and beautiful, but that he will fix its problems in subsequent bills. But Trump will never do that.

Well I'm sure it goes on all the time, but most politicians are not as nakedly transactional as Trump is about it.

It's not a good look.

When it comes to being petty and vindictive, Trump may have finally met his match in Elon Musk. We will see how it goes

I think this is a big charade. Elon is putting up cover to shield himself from stock holders, saying he opposes eliminating the Govt $’s. While at the same time claiming to want more cuts on the budget. He is playing both sides of the fence.

Have we seen it at this level of billions of taxpayer money and directed from the one President directly to the one guy getting the taxpayer billions?

Elon Musk Pledges to Launch Third Party if Big Beautiful Bill Passes Congress

June 30, 2025 | Sundance

For those who have spent time in the lead up to this moment, you may remember our warning that Elon Musk would eventually take a position against President Trump and actively work to undermine the MAGA agenda therein.

Tonight as the Senate debates the Big Beautiful Bill, that does not include subsidies for his electric vehicles and green energy initiatives, Elon Musk promises to organize a third party.  This was all predictable.

[SOURCE]

The bill is imperfect, yes.  However, the BBB contains the priorities of President Trump and those priorities are the goals and objectives of the people who voted to support his vision.  Elon Musk is now actively working against the interests of the Make America Great Again movement, and he is intent on dividing the MAGA coalition.

Sometime around April of 2026 (approx. 15 months), if not sooner,
Elon Musk will be in opposition to Donald Trump and demanding people choose.

“You knew this was coming the day he brought him on stage.”

Not true, he was an absolute God here until he wasn’t anymore...

Once again some of us predicted it and no one would listen.

Trump should tone it down with the scorn words. He does this too often and it hurts him rather than helps him. I cringe when he does this. Musk was not personally attacking Trump here.

The bill does have some good things. I am not happy with it at all because I am tired of paying for illegals. I do not hear Trump jumping on the Senate for the betrayal of his voters.

The bill is not beautiful at all.

The tech immunity for ten years needs to go. And MGT tried to address it but it was swept under the rug. Even here she was lambasted for it. Why is that tech provision in the bill a hill to die on? Because it is NO GOOD and WE DO NOT WANT IT. This country has gone absolutely stupid and I now think they deserve every bit of what they get for being greedy and ignorant.
