President Donald Trump heaped praise on Sen. John Fetterman, singling him out as the “most sensible” Democratic senator.
Trump made the remark during a press conference Friday, in which he assailed Democrats in the Senate for not backing his so-called “big, beautiful bill.”
“It’ll be interesting to see if we get any Democrat votes,” the president said. “If I were a Democrat, I would. Maybe Fetterman, because he seems to be the most sensible one lately.”
The praise comes just days after new polling showed Fetterman with more popularity among PA Republicans than his own party.
The poll showed 45% of Republicans approve of Fetterman while just 40% of Democrats approve of him.
“He’s actually said he doesn’t want to be called a progressive anymore,” said Jim Lee, the pollster who crunched the numbers.
But Trump might not be able to count on Fetterman’s support.
While the senator said he backs the roughly $150 billion for securing the U.S.-Mexico border and immigration enforcement included in the bill, he previously said it won’t be enough to earn his vote.
“I will never support any bill that strips Medicaid, Medicare or SNAP benefits from Americans to bankroll tax cuts for billionaires,” Fetterman said in April.
Estimates show 10.9 million fewer people would have health coverage under the bill’s proposed changes to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.

I know. I thought it was a crime he was running for office and could barely communicate. I thought it was a travesty.
Having looked at his background, it is hard to read these things about him and think he isn’t doing it just to position himself as a moderate for higher office.
But it is true-with his words alone, he sure seems like the only rational Democrat left in Washington.
Pretty slick to be able to troll the DEMs and tell the truth at the same time.

We’re always too quick to trust those people just because they make the right noises. Fetterman knows the game.
Comrade Shapiro will start sounding more moderate too because he wants to be President.
Until Fetterman isn’t sensible, which has, and will happen again.
Close - you still get the same point across. It’s “Trust But Verify”. Was coined in response to one of the nuclear deals he made with the USSR/Russia. Man, it’s still amazing how he achieved that in my lifetime; essentially bankrupting the Soviets into collapse. Ronaldus Magnus was my inspiration for joining the USMC.
An aside; I wonder what he would think of how history has looked so kindly upon him. He was, without a doubt, a master statesman and a very convincing speaker. Som3 look upon him with reverence, and I will admit I have done so at times.
