Palantir to help make nuclear reactors faster, better with new AI platform

Data analytics giants Palantir Technologies Inc. announced a partnership with The Nuclear Company on Thursday to develop NOS, an AI-driven software system designed specifically for nuclear construction projects. The investment comes at a time where the nuclear sector has seen rapid growth in interest from investors and corporations. The software platform’s main aim is to simplify he construction process by enabling faster and cost-efficient deployment of nuclear plants. Palantir will receive approximately $100 million over a five-year period to build the software platform, according to the sources.

Alignment with government policies

The agreement is well aligned with the four executive orders signed by President Donald Trump in May. These orders have called for an expansion of nuclear energy production to fulfil the rising need of electricity due to AI data centers and cryptocurrency mining operations.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission will ease regulations to accelerate the approval process for new facilities as instructed by the orders. The government aims to generate 400 gigawatts of nuclear reactors by 2050, and 10 large-scale reactors to be under construction by 2030.

“Nuclear has the potential to be America’s greatest source of energy addition. It works whether the wind is blowing, or the sun is shining, is possible anywhere and at different scales,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in May.

What will NOS provide?

Nuclear projects are notorious for always surpassing the estimated budgets and miss out on completion timelines. In a bid to resolve these issues, NOS will provide schedule certainty, cost savings through a robust supply chain, problem prevention, and regulatory confidence.

“The future of energy security and sovereignty will be shaped by our ability to deploy advanced technologies at scale,” said Mike Gallagher, Head of Defense at Palantir Technologies. “This partnership marks the first time Palantir’s software will be used to help power the next generation of nuclear energy infrastructure,” he continued.

A massive vision

The Nuclear Company Founder and CEO, Jonathan Webb, also shed light on the company’s long-term vision. “Our mission is to build nuclear power the way America once built its greatest infrastructure projects — fast, safe and at scale,” he said. “With Palantir, we have a technology partner who shares our sense of urgency and understands that nuclear isn’t just an energy issue — it’s a national security imperative.”

“NOS is how we finally break the cycle of delays, deliver a new energy future, and protect America’s nuclear leadership from China, so we don’t lose it like we did manufacturing decades ago.”

Palantir’s rising growth

Palantir has already seen a massive upsurge of 500 percent in its share price over the last 12 months, with year-to-date gains of over 91 percent. The company holds a myriad of U.S. government contracts and has gained attention following the start of Donald Trump’s administration.

In May, Palantir signed a $795 million contract with the U.S. Army to support the Maven Smart System initiative.

As Palantir continues to expand its influence across both public and private sectors, its latest partnership with The Nuclear Company marks a significant step in shaping the future of America’s energy infrastructure.

I did not dream of Palantir building contract software for the power industry. Maybe with NRC streamlining, small modular nukes, and improved software, the lead time for nuclear power plants can be reduced.

But I'm not hopeful.

It takes an AI just to wade through all the federal regulations on nuclear power plants.

I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure I heard Chris Wright (Energy Secretary) saying in an interview that the Trump Administration is trying to reduce regulations and red tape across the spectrum of all sources to foster energy dominance.

That would included Nuclear as well I presume.

We should be the world leader in small, modular nuclear plants built offsite and transported to the location that can be small enough to power a municipality, or as large as it needs to be.

Wright was talking about reducing the time to get a permit for a power plant from years to 30 days maximum. I am sure we are looking at Nuclear as well in that endeavor.

Wading through all the federal regulations on nuclear power plants can reduce a genius’ IQ to blithering idiot.

Yes, the administrations goal is to reduce approval time for everything.

What do you think the IQ was of the people who write the regulations?

Palantir keeps showing up in a lot of unexpected places.

I am a full on believer in full spectrum energy dominance to help us find a way out of our mess we are in financially. That is a good place to start!

So? Plantir software is going to speed up the natural breakdown of Radioactive materials?

Absolute BS marketing campaign. You can speed up the software it is still going to have to wait for natural breakdown.

Hurry! Go buy stock in a bridge that will never be built!!!

“Palantir keeps showing up in a lot of unexpected places.”

Isn’t that the truth? I had no idea they have a software platform for real-time control of industrial processes.

““better” ? that remains to be seen.”

No kidding. A $100 million, 5-year software project is not that big. And software alone for project and construction management isn’t going to really improve anything. The software apparently has nothing to do with improving the core power generation process.

“Better” sounds like marketing hype. Remains to be seen, indeed.
