The Left always likes to portray itself as the angry party. It defines itself by its ability to champion causes that recall the French Revolution’s trilogy of liberty, equality, and fraternity and the mob storming the Bastille.
Wherever there are restrictions -- even legitimate ones -- the Left calls for liberation and license. Where differences appear -- even natural ones of talent or effort -- the Left denounces them as injustice and demands absolute equality. The angry party is always looking for a good revolution to incite or a crisis not to waste.
However, this angry party image is now in trouble in America. Since the last election, the Left has been rudderless, disoriented, and uninspired. It has gone from being the party of clamor to that of whining. There is no thunder on the Left, only incoherent rants.
A Global Populist Movement
This lack of direction is a sign that something major has gone awry. It is not a matter of tweaking, framing, or remessaging. Some observers suggest that the world is transitioning from one historical epoch to another. The debate shifted, and the Left was left behind.
The New York Times editorial writer David Brooks, who himself shifts from Left to Right as the mood seizes him, describes the current phenomenon as “a world-shifting political movement” affecting both the Left and the Right. He compares it to the Communist Revolution, the New Deal, the Sixties, feminism, the LGBTQ+ revolution and other key movements that marked modernity.
He calls this massive shift the “global populist movement.” It is characterized by a general distrust of social structures, governmental programs, and institutions. People consider everything to be “rigged, corrupt and malevolent.” They question everything, harbor social resentment and demand signals of trust.
A Failure to Adapt

The American Left won’t be in big trouble until some of them are used to establish the precedent of being indicted, tried, convicted, and sentenced to hang for giving aid and comfort to the domestic and foreign enemies of the United States.

Globalism overwhelmingly benefited international elites who have little loyalty to their countrymen, just their personal profits. So, they care not at all about the evils of globalism’s “race to the bottom” in wages, regulatory law, etc. In this way, the globalist elites resemble the nobility of the 18th century. The U.S. Constitution banned titles of nobility for good reason.

The term “left” (gauche) itself comes from the French revolution. It’s where the anti-royalty radicals of the national assembly sat - on left side of the presiding assembly chair.
I'm inclined to agree but to do so would mean to imperil those activists' grip on power. Best of luck getting that to happen.
A new message is certainly in order here, but it has to be more than simply honeyed words disguising ill intentions. For one thing, the progressive habit - it's more than that, it's a Skinner-box Critical Theory reflex - of finding an imperfection in the system and concluding that it's systemic and only to be addressed by the complete overthrow of the system itself - that tendency gets awfully tiresome as a public pronouncement and impossible as a public position. The constant need for enemies is equally tiresome. So are the insatiable thirst for hatred and the incessant hyperbolic screeching. And worst of all is the disregard, disdain and contempt for, and fundamental rejection of love for country. To watch the Left attempt to don a patriotic mask come election time only to discard it at first opportunity afterward isn't fooling anyone.

The transition is that the news media is no longer able to control how people interpret the failure of leftism

Look at NYC. Look at their leaders. Hochul not to mention this mayoral fiasco. Adams, a sanctuary state loser, cuomo, lucky to be out of court, running against a charismatic socialist heading to make deblasio look good- a man who denied taking NYC helicopters to go to the gym and otherwise screwed up NYC

I fully agree, we need to encourage them to shout louder. Stomp their feet, hold their breath and completely let loose their inner demons. Be proud dems, fly your rainbow Palestinian flags for all to see.
If the GOP doesn’t closely monitor big blue city polling centers, as they did in Nov. 2024, they will steal again.
If the left is doing so badly, then why is every major city, home to about 40% of the population, run by extreme leftist Dims? Remember that Camela got nearly 50% of the vote. Dims are very close to controlling Congress, and they very well might win both Houses in 2026.
They are doing pretty well for such a “rudderless” party. It is far too early to praise the demise of the Dims.

WHAT can’t the left do or change to make themselves more platable and still be what they are to the base? No more sexual deviance? No more men in woman’s sports and locker rooms and bathrooms? No more chopping up the genitals of young people? No more tax the rich? No more open borders? No more defund the police? No more no bail? WHAT?
The left is in trouble because they have a bunch of big fools running the show.
The Left cannot give up what it is which is smug, arrogant, elitist to the core, credentialed, urban and global. Asking them to do that would be like asking them to stop hating and demonizing straight White men. It goes against every fiber of their being.
The USA democRATs are mostly morons, just like their European counterparts which will raid their citizens and throw them in jail for criticizing politicians or calling politicians morons (which they are).
