NATO members commit to 5% target

Defense spending as share of GDP must drastically increase to hit 2035 goal

Summary

THE HAGUE, June 25 (Reuters) - NATO leaders on Wednesday backed the big increase in defence spending that U.S. President Donald Trump had demanded, and restated their commitment to defend each other from attack after a brief summit in the Netherlands.

While Trump got what he wanted at the annual meeting, tailor-made for him, his NATO allies will be relieved that he committed to the fundamental principle of collective defence after less clear-cut language on Tuesday.

Trump told a press conference that "we had a great victory here", adding that he hoped that the additional funds would be spent on military hardware made in the U.S.

TRUMP THREATENS TO PUNISH SPAIN

However, he threatened to punish Spain after Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez declared it could meet its commitments to NATO while spending much less than the new target of 5% of GDP.

"I think it's terrible. You know, they (Spain) are doing very well ... And that economy could be blown right out of the water when something bad happens," Trump said, adding that Spain would get a tougher trade deal from the U.S. than other European Union countries.

In a five-point statement, NATO endorsed the higher defence spending goal - a response not only to Trump but also to Europeans' fears that Russia poses a growing threat to their...

Silliness. The last thing we want is a big militaries in European countries. It just encourages their nutty adventurism and troublemaking. We should be moving the opposite direction and disarming them. Also, every country there is being bred out of existence. They are becoming Islamic and in 10 years those weapons will be moslem.

Ergo, no EU country should have tanks, artillery, rocket forces, fighters or warships. They should basically be wards of America and stop trying to pick fights like they did in Serbia, Libya and Ukraine. Hell, they are even eyeballing China now.

They should be restricted to a small national guard type force, a coast guard type navy, and air forces of helicopters and transport planes.

Why does it take 3 or more so-called journalists to compose such a simple article?

“NATO commits to spending hike sought by Trump, and to mutual defence”

Europe will throw this promise IN THE TRASH once Trump is no longer a factor - for now they’ll do anything to keep the US tied up in Europe (and Ukraine, for that matter).

But never forget their PRIME OBJECTIVE, which is their PRP (Population Replacement Program), which will take every dime they have available, until the transition is completed. Empty promises about military spending is simply to get Trump off their backs.

They will NEVER have large militaries under their present governments, it’s all BS given their PRP and Net Zero. But after they complete their transition to Islam, then yes, anything is possible.

Actually, this puts the Eurosocialist nations on the horns of a huge dilemma. They can either fund their military and maybe keep the Russians at bay, or they can fund their lavish welfare state.

They will try to do both and fail, and then the rubber will meet the road.

Note that Poland, little Poland, is cheerfully already meeting even the new higher target, because they already know what happens if they don’t.

“They can either fund their military and maybe keep the Russians at bay, or they can fund their lavish welfare state.”

The Russians have had no design to conquer Europe for over 35 years...and in reality, probably not even since WWII. The only reason the Euros face ANY threat from Russia today is that the Euros keep screwing with Russia; shooting missiles and sea drones at their bridge, shooting drones into Moscow, sinking a large Russian warship, blowing up Russian pipelines, confiscating their currency and precious metals on deposit in western banks, conducting strikes on 4 or 5 strategic bomber bases and one nuclear submarine base, harassing their tankers at sea etc.

They do this and then prattle on about keeping the “Russians at bay”. Gaslighting...

Didn’t say that that was the reality - it’s what they perceive.

From their point of view, they suddenly have to fund their long neglected, underfunded militaries lest they become the next Ukraine. The militaries are underfunded because they kept expanding the welfare state and took the money to fund that. The Euros have constantly been excoriating the US for spending too much on the military and not having a welfare state, and now they’re about to be forced to pay the reckoning for their fecklessness.
