Donald Trump appears to have reached a tipping point with the Kentucky Republican, who opposes the president’s legislative package and his decision to bomb Iran without consulting Congress.
A “simple-minded ‘grandstander.’” A “pathetic LOSER.” A “BUM.”
And that’s just since Saturday.
President Donald Trump is intensifying his attacks on Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) as the libertarian-leaning congressman pushes back against the president’s priority legislative package and his decision to bomb Iran without consulting Congress.
In doing so, Trump is also making clearer than ever that he wants to see Massie defeated in the 2026 primary — and make an example of one his few remaining GOP critics in Congress.
“It’s going to be a hell of a fight,” Massie told the conservative podcaster Tim Pool on Monday, laying out why he thought he could survive Trump’s wrath.
Opponents “can’t run to the right of me,” Massie said, so they pitch themselves as more loyal to Trump. “But the reality is, when you dig down into it, I’m the original America-first congressman. That has always been my platform, even when it cost me in popularity, and so over 12 years I’ve developed that understanding with my constituents.”
Later Monday, Massie called the threat a “loaded gun” but downplayed the risk, saying the president and his allies had yet to find a candidate to run against him.
He predicted that Trump would back down. “Ultimately, the president hates to lose,” he said. “And I think what he’ll do, probably, as that time draws near, he’ll do some polling and see that he’s going to lose and maybe not get in the race.”

Where do you stand?
You, Rand Paul and the Washington Post. Strange bedfellows, indeed.
Longtime maverick? Never even heard of the guy until last week. If you put him and Alex Padilla side by side I wouldn’t know who is who.
“””Where do you stand? “”
I stand with America. Not with the whiney kids from Kentucky.
He’s been in Congress for years.
“”Longtime maverick”””
Just like that other “maverick...Democrat John McCain.
Obviously you know more about the guy than I do. What other topics or issues is The Washington Post and Thomas Massie sympatico with?
Okey doke.
Republicans are always “mavericks”
Democrats are “turncoats”.
If the Republican Party spent more energy and money defeating Democrats, they could make Massie a marginalized sideshow again.
Exactly what pro-liberty pro-individualism big-govt-limiting nationwide laws/bills/legislation has Massie or Rand introduced and got passed in the last 20 years, that advances the First Principles?
“He’s been in Congress for years.”
Doesn’t Rand (now in his 14th year) cons8der that a problem?
Yes but if it applied to him (term limits) you’d lose a good senator
So it’s kind of a wash.
Rand wants to serve. Some have had enough after 2 terms i.e Ron Johnson. He’ll be a sad loss.
Long time? Maverick ?
“Yes but if it applied to him (term limits) you’d lose a good senator”
Do as I say, not as I do.
“Maverick” must mean “utter and complete gaslighting douche that is really a democrat”
At least that’s what it meant for John McCain.
“
Yes but if it applied to him (term limits) you’d lose a good senator”
Wiki:
As of June 2020, according to FiveThirtyEight, Paul had voted with President Trump’s position on congressional issues 70% of the time, the second lowest among all Republican senators.
You know he’s going full ‘John McCain media darling’ when they start calling him a “Maverick”.
Zackly. If Massie somehow ends up being the Republican nominee in ‘28 (HA!) the Washington Post will immediately call him Hitler.
He's already in the doghouse, for his courting the liberal media.
