Markets are shrugging off the Israel-Iran conflict. Some strategists warn of complacency

Global investors may be underpricing the impact of a conflict between Israel and Iran, market watchers warned on Monday, as stocks rallied despite escalating warfare in the Middle East.

The two regional powers continued trading fire on Monday, marking the fourth consecutive day of fighting since Israel launched airstrikes against Iran last week.

Despite the continued fighting — with hundreds reported dead — global stock markets sustained a positive momentum on Monday, seemingly shrugging off broader concerns about the conflict.

Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell, warned on Monday that there was a risk markets were underpricing “the risk of a major conflagration in the Middle East,” particularly when it comes to the energy market.

European shares opened broadly higher on Monday, with Asia-Pacific stocks and U.S. stock futures also trading in the green. Even Middle Eastern indexes saw gains on Monday, with the Tel Aviv 35 index last seen trading 1% higher after falling 1.5% last week.

The real question economically is exactly Kharg Island.

Israel has chosen not to level it … yet.

A significant portion of world oil supply flows through that Island, some 3% or so, based on my foggy memory. And with oil demand inelasticity, prices can skyrocket due to small world-wide reductions in supply.

Israel has warned the iranians to stop targeting Israeli civilians. Iran can’t really help it because their aim is shiite. Of all the missiles, only one has arguably hit a strategic asset (Haifa refinery).

So what if Iran takes down an apartment block in Tel Aviv murdering 250 people or so? I think I know the nature of Israelis: They’ll flatten Kharg.

THAT will cause some world-wide economic mayhem.

CNBC is begging for a market decline. The “some experts” who warn of complacency obviously aren’t influential enough to move the market. I know this sounds cynical, but if all Iran and Israel do is trade rocket fire, its not going to impact anything. Of course, wars have a tendency to be chaotic and go in unexpected directions. So this very easily could escalate and then markets would plunge. Especially if Iran manages to get a bomb into a civilian center in Israel or some other Western major city.

It seems that, at least on the opening, investors are optimistic on the direction things are going. Whether that continues or not, who knows? But if the Islamists are overthrown it should be a good thing.

Via Grok:

“Kharg Island handles approximately 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, which account for about 3% of global oil production. In 2023, Iran’s oil production was roughly 3.2 million barrels per day out of a global total of 81.8 million barrels per day. Therefore, Kharg Island facilitates around 2.88 million barrels per day, or approximately 3.5% of the worldwide oil supply.”

Some woketard, liberal strategists I assume!

Iran is toast if Israel wants to finish them off, and they should.
Seems like it wasn’t even very difficult, (which it was)!

On the non-economic side, the strategic crown jewel of the mullahs is Fordow (and another, see below) a mountain in which the centrifuges spin out weapons grade uranium. I know of no reporting that those centrifuges have stopped spinning.

“The mountain in Iran associated with nuclear centrifuges for enriching uranium, including to near weapons-grade levels, is Kūh-e Kolang Gaz Lā, also known as Pickaxe Mountain. It is located just south of the Natanz nuclear facility. The name is sometimes transliterated as Kuh-e Kolang Gaz La or Kuh-e Kolang Gazlah in English sources.
Note: While Fordow is another key enrichment site built into a mountain near Qom, the specific reference to recent construction and deepening tunnels for centrifuge activities points to Kūh-e Kolang Gaz Lā near Natanz.” - Grok

Um, sorry, finally putting a leash on Iran may boost the market by thousands of points. It's FANTASTIC News - but the media loves to fear monger about their liddle poor Iran.

Global investors may be underpricing the impact of a conflict between Israel and Iran, market watchers warned on Monday, as stocks rallied despite escalating warfare in the Middle East.

Eliminating the biggest threat to peace in the middle-east, also means eliminating the biggest threat to trade and regional development in the area.

A better and more prosperous future for the area is what matters most to investors.

You know what size bunker busters are needed to take out Natanz and Fordow. Even then a small nuke might be needed to drop in the hole that is created. Just to be sure.
