Israel Breaks Record with Strike on Airfield in Northeast Iran, 1400 Miles Away

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) broke its own distance record on Sunday with a strike on a refueling plane at the airfield at Mashhad in northeast Iran, at a distance of 2,300 kilometers (over 1,400 miles) from Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement:

A short while ago, the IAF struck an Iranian aerial refueling aircraft at Mashhad Airport in eastern Iran, approximately 2,300 kilometers from Israel. The IAF is operating to establish aerial superiority over Iranian airspace.

This marks the longest-range strike conducted since the beginning of the operation.

The Times of Israel added:

A large fire could be seen at Mashhad Airport following the Israeli strike.

If it was a KC-135 or KC-707 it would be an American designed refueling jet. Iran bought several American designed planes under the Shah.

In WW-II, Charles Lindberg while in the South Pacific figured out how to easily extend the range of the P-38 far beyond factory specs. This was tremendously valuable information that inexplicably never made it to the ETO.

I wouldn't be surprised if the IAF figured out it's own range extending measures for their F-15i's.

There have been reports of Israeli jets being refueled over Iran itself. No air defense left.

So far Israel is just eviscerating Iran. I thought Iran would be capable of putting up more of a fight than this. They’re just getting thoroughly worked over.

...Israel’s Boeing 707s have been operating for around 60 years and will eventually be replaced by four brand-new KC-46A Pegasus refuelers. The 707s started life as commercial airliners and were converted to tankers locally later on.

As with many of their assets, the IAF is very secretive of the exact capabilities and even number of KC-707s it operates...
