A Minnesota lawmaker was killed and another wounded early Saturday in what authorities believe were targeted attacks at the homes of Democratic state officials.
State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed when a gunman impersonating a police officer arrived at their Brooklyn Park home at around 3.35 am, Governor Tim Walz revealed during a press briefing.
'We're here today because an unspeakable tragedy has unfolded,' Walz said. 'State Representative Melissa Hortman, a Democrat, was assassinated, and her husband Mark was also killed.'
State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot multiple times at their Champlin home. Both underwent surgery and remain in critical condition, Walz said.
Local police, sheriff's deputies, and the FBI have launched a frantic manhunt but the shooters remain at large.
At a Saturday morning press conference, officials said neither of the gunmen are in custody, but several 'people of interest' have been brought in for questioning.
Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley said the suspect's vehicle contained a 'manifesto' and a list of targets, including both lawmakers, according to The New York Times.
The first shooting occurred just after 2am at Hoffman's home in Champlin, about 20 miles from Minneapolis. Hoffman and his wife were shot multiple times, KSTP reported.
The second attack took place at around 4am at Hortman's Brooklyn Park residence, eight miles south.
After that shooting, police engaged one of the suspects in a gunfight on the street, officials said.
Drew Evans, head of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, confirmed that the suspect escaped during the exchange and is still on the run.

One legislator dead and her husband are dead and another legislator and his wife severely wounded in a politically hateful terrorist attack and Democrats today are holding hundreds of “I Hate Trump” protests around the country to further fan their fellow lunatics. Makes no sense.
It will probably turn out that Democrats will kill like-minded politicians if they vote the wrong way. As these two did.
“Progressive” assailant trying to purge “moderates” from among Democrat ranks in the legislature?
Coincidence? I would say, "not".
And blame it on MAGA on “Theater Kids” Day...
It makes sense to them. The same type of scumbags who refused to honor the parents of Laiken Riley and 13 yr old DJ Daniel who’s battling brain cancer during Pres Trump’s Congressional Address. 🤬🤬
Can you confirm that they indeed are both “moderates” who cast at least some anti-woke votes?
The Minnesota House, IIRC, was 40-40 so this actually will put the Pubs back in control again until another special election is called.
The Senator is, in terms of political power, less consequential.
My first thought was false flag attack, but a complete nut-bar right winger is not impossible. However, I can see voting the “wrong” way on bathrooms or some such thing triggering some liberal loons without thought of a false flag.
Tim Waltz, Democrats, Minnesota,
neither of the gunmen are in custody,
*****
Is there more than one?
Not much of a history buff are you?
More like leftists will absolutely kill any of their pals that fail to meet expectations.
Democrat terrorism...
To sophisticated to be done by amateurs. Stalinists starting to remove the incorrect thinkers?
Melissa Anne Hortman (née Haluptzok; May 27, 1970 – June 14, 2025) was an American politician who served as Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2019 to January 2025, and continued as the House DFL Leader until her death.
Both Catholic, both voted against benefits for illegals.
Bad reporting? Or a confused police dept?
This sends a message to any other wavering Democrat
TLM Cathoilc or new order catholic
