California’s homebuilding industry is growing jittery over Southern California’s immigration raids and what they might mean to an industry already facing labor shortages.

The state is home to 1.8 million undocumented workers, the highest concentration in the U.S. Roughly 41% of the construction workforce is foreign-born and employed in homebuilding.

It's no secret construction sites are a target rich environment for ICE raids.

Pat and his editors are quite comfortable conflating legal foreign workers with illegal aliens. Upholding the Democrat party propaganda.

Maybe California’s homebuilding industry should have paid attention to Trump’s campaign promises! They could have begun planning for this two or three years ago.

So why don’t they get work visas?

Perhaps employers should be given a “spiff” for every illegal they help get legal.

There was a time, within living memory, when California homes were built by Americans. There was a time, when a young man, not academically inclined, could earn enough money to support a family by going into the construction trades.

Perhaps if 41% of the homebuilding workforce weren’t ‘immigrants’ that time could return and Americans would again be building homes.

Gee. They might have to train some Americans, and pay them lawful wages. Also, legislators might do a couple things, like fund vocational education and widen the front door for fully vetted legal immigrants , while firmly shutting the back door.

And the Southern plantation owners were unhappy after the civil war because they had to pay their former slaves a wage. Somehow, they managed to solve the problem.

The federal government can control building material supply under the commerce clause so only starter size homes can be built in California.

A federal housing size limit might be set at 1100 sq. ft. plus 1000 sq. ft. per acre per unit. A house on two acres might be limited to 3100 sq. ft.

On a three-acre parcel with 12 units per acre zoning, the average apartment size would be 1100 sq. ft. plus 3000/36 sq. ft., or roughly 1184 sq. ft.

California’s blue collar labor economy is going to go through major readjustments in the coming years.

Sharecropping worked so well for Southern landowners that they didn’t gripe about losing slaves.

I’ve never heard a call for reparations for freeing slaves.

“”LA raids rattle California homebuilding industry, where 41% of workforce are immigrants””

Wait. This simply cannot be. We’ve been told endlessly by Democrats that the immigrants are merely doing the work that Americans can’t or won’t do. Yet...Americans have always wanted to do construction work before. Could the Democrats have lied to us? (yeah.../s)

Illegals knocking legal American citizens out of jobs and work is exactly what the Democrats have been pushing and funding.

The only foreigner that helped build my house for my mom in 1978 was my uncle.

Every component that went into it was made in the USA.

Swinging a hammer or nail gun on a roof don’t require trade school. Nor does hanging drywall or structure / interior painting. Even framing is something you can teach in a few weeks OJT. Only plumbing and electrical require trade school or apprenticeship due 100% to licencing and code requirements something the government makes worse every year.

Survey and stake out also require you to.ask daddy government...daddy can I please lay out my measurement points and stakes from a privileged from gov RPLS. Even though RTK GPS can now let any average person set a point with single cm accuracy using autocad generated plats and point clouds a high school student could run the software we did in high school autocad 8 totally dating my self.
