The sisters, 5-year-old Olivia, 8-year-old Evelyn and 9-year-old Paityn Decker, were found suffocated to death at an abandoned campsite in Washington state on Monday, police said, sparking an intense manhunt for their father, Travis Decker.
Whitney had handed the girls over to Decker, 32, for their regularly scheduled custody visit on May 30, the Friday before the devastating discovery.

Whitney told police that while he had a “good relationship” with his daughters and they enjoyed their time together, she believed he was experiencing mental health issues, according to the affidavit.
“But he never displayed any sort of ‘red flags’ to Whitney,” Cozart said.
As the manhunt continues, the sheriff’s office has advised residents in neighboring counties to lock their doors, including on outbuildings and sheds, and leave their outdoor lights on and their blinds open.
Travis Decker was experiencing homelessness, living in his car, motels or camping locally, his ex-wife told police.

But there were concerns. Whitney told police that near the end of their marriage, her ex-husband was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and she did not think he was taking his medication, according to the police affidavit.
In September 2024, a judge granted Whitney and Decker a parenting plan with limitations after an incident in which Decker kept the girls overnight at a homeless shelter and allowed them to go to a corner store unsupervised, according to Cozart.

The new parenting plan included a psychiatric evaluation for Travis Decker, mandatory mental health counseling, and a domestic violence evaluation, according to court documents. He was permitted to see the children every other weekend.
Travis Decker had “displayed some volatile behaviors that seemed concerning towards Whitney, never towards the girls,” Cozart said.

More from the article:
Travis Decker is a former US Army infantryman and staff sergeant with eight years of service, including five months in Afghanistan, according to a US Army spokesperson. He is currently a member of the Washington National Guard but is in the midst of a disciplinary process of being discharged because of missed drills, the National Guard confirmed to CNN.

Women need to stop spreading them for people like Decker.
“No red flags?”
From your link:
“In a 2024 court filing, the children’s mother, Whitney Decker, raised concerns about his temperament and “lack of stability.” Travis Decker was reportedly living out of his car and had exhibited emotional outbursts that frightened and distressed their daughters, she said.”
The article is full of red flags.
Daughters and Father needed to see each other. He served his country and needed his country to help h8m better.
Tragedy. Gov’t fails everyone it comes into contact with, including these girls and the mother.
Maybe he didn’t have ‘red flags’ when they met.
Maybe taking his kids from him, forcing him to live in his car and him making child support payments from his car created red flags?
There’s only so much hate a man can take before it drives him completely mad.
Stop hating on men.
Misandry is killing families, starting with the men.
So it’s everyone else’s fault he killed his 3 daughters???
I blame the system, the court, the psychiatrists, maybe the military, the ones who decided he was ok to see his daughters unsupervised. From what I see there were plenty of red flags and stupid shrinks always think they can “cure” people.
Have you thought your cunning plan all the way through?
Men like Decker need to keep it zipped up.
I think ex spouses who think the other is getting weird need to say something. We’ve heard so many stories of women and men doing this kind of thing.
Maybe I missed it, however was there any history of drug use by Decker?
I don’t think drug use was mentioned, though the ex-wife did suspect he wasn’t taking his prescribed medication.
Without fail every time I call the VA to ask me about my mental health
So do I. Keeping young girls overnight in a homeless shelter *should* be a deal-breaker.
“Maybe taking his kids from him, forcing him to live in his car and him making child support payments from his car created red flags?”
Maybe they were taken from him BECAUSE he had problems. My niece went thru that with her husband. He was a Marine with issues from several tours in Iraq. H filed for divorce and gave her custody. Started using drugs and lived on the streets.
Then told her he’d fight her for custody - unless she paid him money. She refused. Shockingly, he couldn’t find a lawyer who agreed a drug-using guy living on the streets needed custody.
A few years later, he cleaned up and got his act together enough that he visits his kids. On the positive side, he never showed any signs of violence towards them and is now trying to get his life together.
I respect his service, but he had no business having custody of young kids. They are now in their teens, in high school, and are OK with visiting him. Maybe they will eventually have a good relation. Hope so.
But there are often good reasons a father is denied any custody...
What is wrong with you??? Killing his children is NOT the response of a normal man who has suffered loss! Yeah, getting divorced sucks, but a normal person does NOT go off the deep end like that. The guy is obviously a nut case, and I can just imagine what kind of a husband he made. Reminds me of the guy back home who killed all nine of his children because his wife found someone else and was divorcing him. A sicko take on, “ if I can’t have you, I’m going to destroy you”.
One of the many problems of the Establishment wars.
She has. That is the plan.
That is why they eat wedding cake.
It is the medicine that stops all sex.
children don’t need to see unstable fathers without supervision.
