The San Francisco Unified School District will not be moving forward with a controversial equity grading strategy that was proposed this week after significant backlash.

The strategy, known as "Grading for Equity," was presented during a SFUSD Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, according to Superintendent Maria Su, with the goal of offering "professional development opportunity in standards-based grading."

Under the proposed standards, how a student scores on the final exam, which could be taken multiple times, would be what counts toward their grade for the semester, according to the Voice of San Francisco.

If the same idiots who implemented this are still in place, they will just do it quietly.

When I was in school, it was up to the teacher how to grade. Some graded on a curve....others used a straight scale.

Some of the ones who graded on a curve were tougher than the ones who graded on a straight scale.

Homework and weekly tests would not impact the grade, and neither would late assignments, tardiness to class or absence from school.

I realize that this has been shelved for the time being. But the fact is, life is much more like homework than tests. And life is very much about being there and being there on time or at least a successful life is. De-emphasizing homework, tardiness, absence is just setting kids up for failure. The people who proposed this should be nowhere near education.

The proposed "grading system" is/was a disservice to the students. If they haven't mastered the material, they need to work harder to get there. Rewarding failure just ensures that they will continue to expect to be rewarded for failure.

Equity is essentially embracing the lowest common denominator, which is shown here in red.

Is it in the Fox News style guide that every paragraph has to be one run-on sentence?

It also sounded like a scam benefit for the teachers so they wouldn’t have to put in so much effort trying to teach. In any event, a good deal for the teachers who will not have to display their academic ignorance and be free to proselytize. A big union sop.

If only the folks would realize that they are smarter than the people they put in office, and vote for people who actually will make things better. But they won’t.

Homework and weekly tests would not impact the grade, and neither would late assignments, tardiness to class or absence from school.

Were the complaints about these not counting, or that the exam did count? Give an equity grade entirely based on melanin content.

This ought to help with college admissions.

No wonder there is a huge, thriving private school industry in San Francisco.

Libby mothers will buy into all kinds of DEI crap in general......but not when it comes to their children, especially their education.

Raising children is THE major investment for mothers and their time and their love. They are not going to f up this investment with a craptastic DEI education. They need to bulldoze over trough feeding educrats who obstruct anti-DEI mothers. Get them fired, run them out of town, whatever it takes.

A big union sop.

The teacher's unions have been behind lowering of standards for students and themselves. The rise of private and charter schools driving meritocracy over idiocracy is a threat to the unions.
