The Supreme Court on Thursday blocked the Mexican government's lawsuit against major U.S. gun manufacturers, delivering a win for the firearms industry in a test of a federal law that shields them from civil suits.
The high court unanimously rejected Mexico's arguments that its effort to hold firearms makers accountable for the violence wreaked by drug cartels armed with their products should proceed because it satisfied an exception to the liability shield provided through the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, or PLCAA.
In the case known as Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. v. Estados Unidos Mexicanos, Mexico had argued that gun manufacturers are knowingly aiding and abetting the unlawful sale of their firearms to straw purchasers, who are trafficking them across the southern border to give to drug cartels.
But the justices said that because Mexico's complaint does not plausibly allege that the gunmakers aided and abetted dealers' unlawful sale of weapons to Mexican traffickers, it was barred by PLCAA. Justice Elena Kagan delivered the opinion for the court...
As part of its efforts to stem the flow of guns illegally trafficked across the U.S.-Mexico border to arm drug cartels, the Mexican government sued seven of the biggest gunmakers in the U.S. and one wholesaler in 2021. It is seeking $10 billion in damages from the industry, as well as other forms of relief.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
This makes a great win for US manufacturers of firearms.
The Supreme Court couldn’t risk Eric Holder and Hillary Clinton getting subpoenaed by the defendants.
Great! She got one right!
It is more than just a win for the NRA.
It means plaintiffs cannot simply make stuff up, such as:
The oil companies did not give enough money to leftist groups, therefore they owe me money when a flood happened or a tree fell on my house.
That is the essence of a series of lawsuits against oil companies.
Was Fast and Furious Hillary and Eric or Obama and Eric?
Pretty sure it was Obama and his “wingman” Eric Holder.
I’ve got an idea for the Mexican government. Indict Eric Holder and demand his extradition to face trial in Mexico.
Trump would hand him over in a heart beat.
L
Not only was Hillary behind it, and had been involved in prior gun running with the arms-for-Contras through Mena Arkansas when her husband was governor, the psychopath had the gall to blame regular U.S. citizens and demand more gun control.
It’s also a giant WIN for Bill Of Rights MAGAmericans. The car manufacturers ALSO DODGED A BULLET. According to the TV ads here in Texas, Mexican ambulance chasers and shyster lawyers are pouring into America to clean up on all the “immigration due process” cases being created by the Feral Fag Tyrants in the DemonRATS’, weaponized anti-American “judicial” Oligarchy Malarkey Treehouse club. I wonder if these “district” RAT “judges” will be getting any kickbacks on all these so-called “due process” scams to be held in America’s third world style courts for the next 30 or 40 years.

Wow! Another 9-0 decision today out of this court in America’s favor!
First, a 9-0 opinion that reverse discrimination is discrimination.
This is a great day in Law Land!
Eff the Mexicans.
They take it up the bung from the cartels all day long, and they want to mess with OUR rights because they don’t like the feel.
Neutered Nahautl scum.
No liability for gun makers. None (sovereign immunity) for the US government (and thus taxpayers.) But how about liability for the Democratic party for its gun running to the cartels. Love to see all those big gun grabbers in court defending their actions.
Did the US ever sue Mexico or Canada for booze slipped into the US during the 1920s?

It was always a BS suit to begin with. Same for blaming auto manufacturers for car crashes. Case law settled that long ago.
For the love of...LOL....so it’s gun makers’ fault, not the crummy corrupt government in Mexico for cartels? I know it got rejected, but the fact the Mexican government, corrupt to its core, has the audacity to blame American gun makers for it’s abysmal failure to govern.
I always liked the scalpel argument. The scalpel isn’t credited for doing surgery. The doctor does surgery. Guns don’t kill people. You would think that is obvious.
winning again
Hopefully this helps when lib states try similar tactics.
