DETROIT — Federal agents have arrested a University of Michigan scholar from China on charges she tried to smuggle a biological pathogen into the U.S. characterized as a potential agricultural terrorism weapon that can be used for targeting food crops.
The FBI counterintelligence case against UM scholar Yunqing Jian, 33, and her boyfriend, 34-year-old Zunyong Liu, was unsealed in federal court in Detroit on Tuesday and marks the second time in less than a week a Chinese national with ties to the university has been charged with federal crimes.
On Friday, prosecutors unsealed a criminal case against a former University of Michigan Chinese student who voted illegally in the 2024 election, saying he fled the U.S. to avoid prosecution.

And...nothing will be done.
Round em up and ship em out.
There’s about 300,000 more just like them still inside the gates...
Drag them both out into the street and shoot both in the head. Send a bill for the cost of the bullets to their families back in china.
The fungus is already here, causing widespread damage to cereal crops. Any competent mycologist could isolate it from a field of infected grain. If their intent was to use it as a biological weapon, that is another matter and should be punished.
By Chinese law any citizen approached by the Ministry of State Security to act as a spy must comply. There are no exceptions. Having a Chinese working for you is to have a potential spy working for you.
There are numerous pathogen storage facilities in the US and Canada that can supply research samples of this pathogen for any conceivable legit research purpose.
The only plausible explanation is that there was a desire to bring this pathogen into the country secretly and without any scrutiny of the research being done. And also to hide the Chinese origin of the pathogen if it is released into the US.
I like it!
And how many hundreds... or thousands... of people smuggling in similar materials... and not necessarily from China... have NOT been caught?
ACT OF WAR!
Sequence the DNA on the smuggled sample. Compare with the DNA from other US and foreign samples of the same fungus.
We can assume that every chinese student at any university is a spy for the CCP. They are here to learn our technology and bring it back home.
Thank you, federal agents. Expect an exchange with China soon since their spies actions failed.
I saw this story in my news feed from CBS….. the headline had the sarcastic “deadly” “pathogen” in quotes. These folks are insufferable.
Cancel every single Chinese visa tomorrow. Give them all 7 days to leave or face prosecution. Tell them we will consider issuing new ones on a case by case basis once they turn the fugitive over to us.
Oh, and make that guy who smuggled this stuff in eat a pound of it after we make him watch his girlfriend eat a pound of it.

The Han Chinese are completely racist and would release a pathogen that would kill all non-Han Chinese in a heartbeat. This particular pathogen was brought to destroy food crops and hopefully create mass starvation. This is an act of war. Nothing less.
Darn right.
The Han have a racist superiority complex that is off the charts level arrogant.
They considered their Gweilo colleagues in our program as distinctly inferior (and many were), everyday Americans as a lower form of life and black people as the same sort of delicacy as they would consider a monkey.
And the Mandrin are not exactly shrinking violets either.
Can someone say Act of War!
China is at war with us, whether we acknowledge it or not!
Its not a war of troops, planes and navies at least not yet.
It’s a war of influence, bribery, economic sabotage and theft as well as low level biowar.
We need to kick all China visa holders out of the country for at least one year! And either greatly ratchet up tariffs on Chinese goods or suspend trade.
