Lithuania reveals evacuation plan for its capital's 600,000 civilians as the NATO member tells of fears it will be next nation invaded by Putin

Lithuania's capital Vilnius on Wednesday presented an evacuation plan in case of war, as the NATO member revealed its anxieties that Russia could target it next after its invasion of Ukraine.

Lithuania, a NATO and EU member, has been a staunch ally of Ukraine since Vladimir Putin's 2022 invasion, and has since ramped up defence spending and training.

The three main evacuation routes run west, 'as the enemy has historically come from the east', Vilnius's Mayor Valdas Benkunskas said at a press conference.

'We do not want to cause panic,' he said. 'Our goal is clear: to have a plan, to have coordination between institutions, to know who is responsible for what, and to trust our defence forces... hoping that this plan will never need to be activated.'

The city aims to hold evacuation drills in the autumn.

Vilnius is just 20 miles from the border with Belarus, which Russia used as a springboard for its Ukraine invasion.

Lithuanian officials fear Moscow could repeat the scenario for any attack on the Baltic country.

In September, Russia and Belarus will hold the Zapad military drills, which in previous iterations drew tens of thousands of troops close to borders with Poland and the Baltic states.

Vilnius authorities have said the city of over 600,000 residents could be fully evacuated within 48 hours.

The evacuation plan is also a response to threats from natural disasters or incidents at the Ostrovets nuclear plant in Belarus.

Lithuanian authorities had previously staged decontamination drills and handed out iodide tablets to Vilnius residents in case of an incident at Ostrovets, a Russian-built facility about 50 kilometres from the capital.

I think I see the problem here.

One of the British MI6 Tabloids again.... nothing to read, no comment.

The amount of BS peddled in the UK press is astounding; they find a morsel of truth and whip people into a frenzy. The people who read can’t get enough, the only reinforcement for their entire worldview comes from propoganda, and the BBC which was sickening to have to watch in Tokyo, and The View or MSMBC.

If it comes from the UK Sun, this rag or the other from England, you know it is filled with hestria about Russia. Soon enough they will turn to Trump again; he never did get a honeymoon with the EU who only wants war.

There is their problem right there: They could be chased out with a little radiation and occupied by Russia in 48 hours. If I wans’nt thinking about it I certainly would be now. Time to occupy them with a scare.

Leave Russia alone and it will leave you alone.

In the light of historical evidence that's a laughably inaccurate statement and that Lithuania has every reason to be concerned.

Leave Russia alone and it will leave you alone.

Sure, Russia became the largest land mass empire in the world by not invading anyone. Okay

Dateline January 2027: Russia invades Europe, says ceasefire talks are possible soon. Europe passes new sanctions.

Modern-day IS NOT THE SOVIET UNION.

You don't seem intelligent enough to grasp that.

In fact, NATO expansionism and the globalists that control are much like the Soviets and they are, by far, the greatest danger to our and Western citizens.

To even compare the Soviet Union to modern-day Russia proves you're imbecile.

Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union has been responding to out meddling in neighboring countries and NATO expansion to their borders.

We promised Russia no eastward expansion of NATO in the early '90s. Even Biden admitted expanding would be tolerated in 1997.

We fomented an illegal coup in Ukraine in 2014 that installed a puppet government hostile to Moscow and the ethnic Russian population in Ukraine, one that threatened Russia's access to its naval base in Crimea, one it had operated since before the US Constitution was written.

Stop deflecting attention away from NATO and globalist aggression that is the root cause of the war in Ukraine.

Didn’t work for the Baltics in 1940, did it?

Didn’t work before during the time of the Russian Empire?

Poland found out.

Modern-day IS NOT THE SOVIET UNION.

Educate yourself

Kremlin deems Russia de jure and de facto legal successor to USSR

The Kremlin sees Russia as the legal successor of the Soviet Union de jure and de facto, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists Monday when commenting on a dissenting opinion on the status of the Russian state voiced by a judge from the Russian Constitutional Court.

"This is the opinion of a judge from the Constitutional Court, according to practice such opinions are published. In this case we leave it without comment, and we hold that Russia is the legal successor of the Soviet Union de jure and de facto," Peskov emphasized.

Why do people keep falling for this claptrap? If Russia can’t beat Ukraine in 3 years, how are they going to attack and win against a NATO member with a seriously eroded army?

The stupidity is plain to see but I am sure the usual Ukraine trolls will show up to tell us Russia is taking over the world...

The Wilhelm Gustloff was a German luxury liner that was converted into a military transport ship during World War II. On January 30, 1945, while evacuating German refugees and military personnel from East Prussia, it was torpedoed by a Soviet submarine and sank, resulting in one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history, with an estimated 9,400 deaths.

Near the end of the war, Goya took part in Operation Hannibal, the evacuation of German military and civilian personnel from remaining pockets held by the Germans along the Baltic Sea. Loaded with thousands of refugees, the ship was sunk on 16 April 1945 by the Soviet submarine L-3. Most of the crew and passengers died in the sinking.

The sinking of Goya was one of the biggest single-incident maritime losses of life of the war, and one of the largest such losses in history, with just 183 survivors out of roughly 6,700 passengers and crew

>> Modern-day IS NOT THE SOVIET UNION.

Thankfully not, but the neo-Soviets look back to the days of Soviet domination with nostalgia and revanchism.

The only time Russia leaves you alone, is when its down on its knees, like in 1991 and begging for and gladly accepting US food aid.

The moment they raise their heads they start having dreams of an Empire and behaving like they have historically - expanding.

The only way to end Russian imperialism for good is to smash it into 10-20 constantly warring statelets and of course defang it nuclearly. May not be feasible or achieveable, but you will get more and more of the Bear behaving like a Bear if its allowed to nurse its wounds and rise from the ashes. Again and again.
