U.S. consumers just delivered a clear message: they’re not as worried as the experts thought.
The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index jumped by 12.3 points in May, the largest monthly gain in four years, as Americans grew more upbeat about the economy, the job market, and their own financial prospects. The reading came in at 98.0, up sharply from April’s 85.7, and blew past all forecasts by economists.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Everyone has figured out the tariff tiff isn’t the End of the World.
Their clue: Dems and media keep saying it is.
Commies hardest hit they were hoping for terrible news. I know consumer confidence is high when the Nintendo Switch 2 sold out on April 24th pre order date in a matter of MINUTES..its a 500 dollar console poof gone..and for those who did not pre order, next week is gonna be nuts at all the big stores, walmart, target, best buy, gamestop who are expecting thousands to show up to get one..so yeah consumer confidence is high
“Experts” again.
Media said the store shelves are going to be bare, tariff inflation will push up prices, auto workers will be laid off and the countries are not agreeing to deals as Trump hoped.
Guess not.
So grandma won’t have to eat cat food? What a relief.
The only gloomy ones will be the Democrats as they watch their talking points evaporate, one by one.
I have said for years that fuel prices are the strongest indicator of consumer confidence. People simply notice that they have more disposable income when they are paying low variable prices for something that has a pretty stable demand in their budgets.
I eat Tuna fish at least once every two weeks...tuna sandwiches with dill pickle and celery...Tuna Casserole...Tuna and Peas on Toast.
Yep. We sure are.
So much for the “Moodys Blues” Eeyores predictions.😄
Economists are like the weather man. They only know what’s going to happen after it happens. Go to Costco and watch how people shop. That’s a good barometer.
Republicans (Trump, actually, there is a difference) have pulled the best boards from the old Democrat platforms, the ones that made sense and got generations of them elected. All they have left are the crazies, who used to be in psych wards doing the Thorazine Shuffle, the “elites” and media most people no longer trust, and obsessive, reflexive hate.
unexpected...
This is why there should be a consumption tax. People will SEE the tax on every store receipt every time they buy something. Most people never look at the deduction amounts on their pay stub.
Yeah...what do they know...
Spaghetti and Tuna balls.
I spend more, get less value, Chinese crude. Best buy recently new Soup and skillet, NO FREAKING RIVETS. I’ll get more as my nasty, Toxic Teflon needs pitching.
Bought some metal canning items to make tallow. Plastic is ok for fruit/veggies. And don’t let anyone tell you you can’t water bath can meat soups. Add a tsp of lemon juice, doesn’t affect the taste. Everyone was screaming Pressure canner. I cut up beef fat, used the crockpot on low overnight, took an immersion blender to it, and strained the residue out, first try, and the Butcher is now charging for what they once threw out. Still cheaper than Amazon ordering.
Butter is next to try to can.
” they’re not as worried as the experts thought.”
“experts” ... pffft!!
Grocery stores are also a good barometer.
While obama (biden) was in charge, buggies were half full.
Now they are 3/4 full and more.
