The Trump Administration has ordered US embassies to halt all student visa applications as the president cracks down on America's higher education business.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has directed officials to stop scheduling appointments with student visa applicants as they prepare to implement a social media vetting process, according to a cable obtained by Politico.

'Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not add any additional student or exchange visitor (F, M, and J) visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued septel, which we anticipate in the coming days,' the cable states.

The Institute of International Education Open Doors data report found that in 2023-2024 academic year, the United States hosted a record-breaking 1.1 million international students.

These students generated $43.8 billion through tuition, housing and living expenses, according to NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

Donald Trump has waged war on elite universities, accusing them of antisemitism and blasting their 'woke' ideology.

Harvard has born the brunt of Trump's fire but is also fighting back just as hard.

This is a developing story...

It doesn’t make any sense, because these foreign students are paying top dollar for their tuition and fees. It’s a huge money-maker for the US, and helps to offset the trade deficit in physical goods.

“””These students generated $43.8 billion through tuition, housing and living expenses,””

And now that same amount of money will come from US citizens attending in those spots otherwise filled by foreigners.

Yeah, use “enhanced interrogation” on every current muzzard “student” then deport them.

All moslems are a threat to Christians and Jews.

I consider UK Daily Mail and Rachel Bowman part of the Lying Leftist Media problem. Presumptively biased and, therefore, presumptively not truthful.

Aren't we subsidizing these universities?

Trump is further limiting the ability of young, fertile foreigners to come here and create anchor babies. Good.

Yes and no. Some students, exactly like you said, bring money into the U.S. from either their families or their governments paying the tuition. Some foreign students, however, have their tuition paid by U.S. taxpayers.

So lets see if part of Rubio's vetting process includes determining if students are freeloading are bringing money in.

PDJT will eventually allow SOME student visas.. in reasonable numbers AND for people that are FULLY VETTED not to be enemy spies or anti-American agitators. In other words, genuine students pursuing their studies.
Meanwhile, the colleges will just have to suffer through admitting more American students. (And Hopefully without the racist and religious bias we’ve witnessed at moral cesspools like Harvard.) Far too many (thousands and thousands and thousands) of good, well-qualified USA students have been turned down by these slimy colleges so that foreigners can take their places. In some colleges this is a very large operation comprising hundreds or even thousands of places in the entering classes that COULD and mostly SHOULD have gone to deserving American students.

Really, American students can be quite nice to have on campus.....

Yup. Don't send your kid to college in Canada.

Nothing personal. I too sent my kid to college in Canada. But it was about a decade ago.

It does when you consider the fact that as many as 20% of foreign students overstay their visas to reside illegally in the USA.
