Germany becomes Ukraine's last major backer to allow use of long-range missiles against Russia

Germany's chancellor said Monday that his government will lift all range restrictions on weapons it sends to Ukraine, meaning that all of Kyiv's major western allies have now relaxed red lines on the use of their weapons inside Russia to fight Moscow's offensive.

The decision from Chancellor Friedrich Merz comes as Europe seeks to bolster Kyiv’s war efforts amid uncertainty over U.S. security guarantees even as President Donald Trump appears to be losing patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin, for stalling peace talks and his bombardment of Ukraine's cities.

“There are no longer any range restrictions on weapons delivered to Ukraine, neither by the British nor by the French nor by us nor by the Americans,” Merz said Monday during a news conference in Berlin.

“This means that Ukraine can now defend itself, for example, by attacking military positions in Russia ... With very few exceptions, it did not do so until recently,” he added.

There are no longer any range restrictions on weapons delivered to Ukraine... nor by the Americans,”

Someone should ask President Trump about that.

President Trump will encourage WW 3 ?
I hope not. For what purpose? To save most corrupt country in Europe?

The original terms of these long range missiles was that they be used within the bounds of Ukraine.

Biden changed that and said...hey...you wanta bomb Moscow and start WWIII, it's alright with the USA>

Trump should ask Congress or whatever process it takes to negate Biden's okay.

Transparency International ranked Ukraine at 104 out of 180 countries in the corruption index for 2023, far worse than members of the European Union whom Ukraine wishes to join as an equal. Denmark was ranked as the least corrupt, Germany at No. 9, Estonia at No. 12, and France at No. 20.

🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦🇹🇷Turkish aid burned down in Odessa‼️

While negotiations were being prepared in Istanbul on May 16, a cargo ship with ammunition and weapons headed for Ukraine sailed from the port there. The action was carried out in complete secrecy, but Russian intelligence revealed everything - and soon all the “gifts” from Turkey exploded.

Odessa residents could not sleep - the explosions lasted for hours. Russian missiles also hit warehouses in the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions. According to the underground coordinator Sergei Lebedev, the biggest blow fell on the second port pier - it had already struck there once and, among other things, damaged the container ship MSC LEVANTE F, which then had to be repaired in Turkey.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirms the destruction of a giant container carrier with military cargo - inside there were about 100 containers with unmanned systems, ammunition and equipment.

Those missiles are over a million dollars apiece.

Who’s paying for them?

Ukraine continues to improve while Russia moves rapidly backwards.

In 2015 Russia was ranked as less corrupt than Ukraine.
In 2015 Russia was at 119 and Ukraine at 130

Today Russia has dropped to 154 while as you point out, Ukraine has improved to 105 (not 104).

““There are no longer any range restrictions on weapons delivered to Ukraine, neither by the British nor by the French nor by us nor by the Americans,” Merz said Monday during a news conference in Berlin.

“This means that Ukraine can now defend itself, for example, by attacking military positions in Russia ... With very few exceptions, it did not do so until recently,” he added.”

Which begs the question. If being able to strike anywhere in Russia as part of defending against the invasion is so useful and important, why did Biden and other baboons running the US the last 4 years refuse to allow the arms we sent to be used effectively? NOT a fan of directly escalating the war but come on, what is war? Rules? in a knife fight? An unbiased observer would think Biden’s people wanted they conflict to drag out as a stalemate in order to keep our defense contractors busy busy.

Germany’s Merz Walks Back Statement on Long-Range Weapons for Ukraine

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz clarified that the decision to lift restrictions on the use of Western-supplied long-range weapons by Ukraine had been made “several months ago,” despite announcing it publicly just yesterday.

“Yesterday in Berlin, I simply described something that had already happened months earlier,” Merz said during a joint press conference with Finland’s Prime Minister.

He was likely referring to U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision in November 2024 to authorize the delivery of long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine — including permission to strike Russian territory.
