Vermont Gov. Phil Scott (R) vowed Wednesday to veto a proposal to ban in guns in bars if it reaches his desk.
VTDigger reported that the proposal is a charter change for Burlington contained in S.131 and it cleared the Vermont Senate in April. However, S.131 only passed the Senate by 17 votes, which is not enough to overcome the veto Gov. Scott promises to use against it.
Gov. Scott believes the ban would be onerous on bar owners as it would put them in the position of enforcing it.
He said, ““Like, who’s going to stand at the door and frisk people? Are you going to have a metal detector?”

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Agreed. I was actually shocked to see the have a R governor. Never noticed that before.

NH seems similar
Vt is a very odd state.
a lot of restaraunts are family owned one offs and serve alcohol. And many are Breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar after closing.
I assume this would hit ALL of them.
Yes, NH has a GOP controlled Governor, Executive Committee. A GOP State Senate. A GOP State House.
Yet, both US Senators, and both US Congress members(we only have two) are Democrat. Plus, the last POTUS to win NH GW Bush in 2000. Trump only lost by a few thousand in 2016. Less than 1%.
IMHO, this is because the Dems spend A LOT of money here to win these elections. Even on the State Senate level. Where as the GOP candidates DO NOT get the money tospend on advertising that the Dems do.
An example of this is our most recent US Congress election in district 2. The incumbent Dem was not seeking reelection.
So, we had an open seat. We had several carpetbaggers running on the GOP side. The primary was won by Lily Tang Williams. A self made US immigrant from China.
On the Dem side an unknown younger woman ran against a known Dem State Senator and won. Her name is Maggie Goodlander. I call her Mrs. Jake Sullivan(of the Biden WH). Goodlander is the grand daughter of big NH real estate developer. She is a trust fund baby that grew up in FL, but spent most of the last twenty years living in DC.
She had MILLIONS to spend on her campaign. The DC machine including Obama was behind her. Where as Lilly Tang Williams did not get squat from the GOP. Even though she crushed her in the only debate they held.
Maggie Goodlander is now my US Congress Rep.
Interesting
We will probably have a repeat of this in 2026. Jeanne Shaheen has stated she will not seek a third term as US Senator.
Already the favorite is the US Dem Congressman Chris Pappas from the district one. At least he is actually from NH. His parents own a very popular restaurant(The Puritan Back Room) in Manchester.
The really hypocritical thing about my US rep Goodlander is that she claimed residency here in am apartment in Nashua(district 2).
Even though she NEVER lived here. Her and Jake Sullivan own a big fancy house over in Portsmouth(district 1). But Pappas was already in place over there. So, she ran here.
Oh, by the way, that apartment is owned by the family real estate trust. Of which she is a member of that Sam Tamposi real estate trust. That way she can claim to be just another struggling working woman trying to get by (on a $20MM-30MM trust fund). Woe is her.
What a farce
Oh, I almost forgot. Chris Pappas is an openly gay man. So, we got that going for us too!
Fun fun
If you are legally carrying concealed, you should be careful to not drink alcohol beyond one or two drinks/beers. Should you shoot in self-defense, and test intoxicated, the prosecutor will come down hard on whether it was a legal shooting.

If I’m carrying, I don’t drink. Period.
I always carry but when I go to a bar/restaurant for lunch or dinner, I never drink hard liquor, rarely have wine {never more than one glass} and usually have two beers {max}.
If you carry, you have to know that you are a dangerous weapon, responsible for all of your actions {and some that you did not start}.
The right to carry was given to us by the deaths of the founders and we are the only nation on earth where it is part of our Constitution.
We that do carry must remember that our actions reflect on every other person that wants to keep the right to carry, and act accordingly.

Amen. A man (or woman)’s got to know his (or her) limitations. ☺️
A little bit of Calvin Cioldidge’s VT is still left.
