WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump implored House Republicans at the Capitol to drop their fights over his big tax cuts bill and get it done, using encouraging words but also the hardened language of politics over the multitrillion-dollar package that is at risk of collapsing before planned votes this week.

During the more than hour-long session Tuesday, Trump warned Republicans not to touch Medicaid with cuts, and he told New York lawmakers to end their fight for a bigger local tax deduction reversing his own campaign promise. The president, heading into the meeting, called himself a “cheerleader” for the Republican Party and praised Speaker Mike Johnson. But he also criticized at least one of the GOP holdouts as a “grandstander” and warned that anyone who doesn’t support the bill would be a “fool.”

“We have unbelievable unity,” Trump said as he exited. “I think we’re going to get everything we want.”

The president arrived at a pivotal moment. Negotiations are slogging along and it’s not at all clear the package, with its sweeping tax breaks and cuts to Medicaid, food stamps and green energy programs, has the support needed from the House’s slim Republican majority. Lawmakers are also being asked to add some $350 billion to Trump’s border security, deportation and defense agenda.

Inside, he spoke privately in what one lawmaker called the president’s “weaving” style and took questions.

The president also made it clear he’s losing patience with the various holdout factions of the House Republicans, according to a senior White House official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private meeting.

I personally will get behind Trump's big beautiful tax bill when Trump's campaign promise is re-added back in.
Ending taxes on SS benefits.

Rinos like you are the reason this bill hasn't passed. You want your way, you want nothing but your way or it's a big fat no. Get with the program, stand together and pass the bill, instead of stopping it because you don't like a part of it.

That's the problem with conservatives, they are all about a leaking faucet in their stateroom, wanting it fixed, wanting maintenence up there right now. Not caring they are working on the bilge pumps to stop the boat from sinking. YOU DONT CARE, YOUR ROOM FAUCET HAS A DRIP BOTHERING YOU.

The boat has righted for the first time in 20 years and the right wants to fight about stuff they can pass later

And they are the same people that freak out about a “government shutdown” and support CRs that create this mess.

Drop the Drama Queen theatrics and re-read my post.

I’m not blaming Trump for breaking his promise, I’m just calling attention to it.

And since you have a problem with conservatives (”That’s the problem with conservatives...”) then head over to the DUmp.

To me, it seems this thread poster is *always* posting propaganda from the NYTimes, WPost, AP, Reuters, CNN, etc.

I’m not saying this is bad or good, it just happens.

Whatever trip you are on, come back to reality. The repubs in congress are saying they won't support a bill they don't like some part of.

They won't stand together. The devil is a divider, put aside your single hill to die on, and stand with other Republicans and get the bill passed.

Let’s use your analogy to frame the matter. When I have a faucet dripping massively in my house, I shut the water off to stop the leak so repairs can be made. The US government should do the same. This bill, to be righteous to the campaigns in 2024, should shut the water off (Green new deals, DOGE cuts, and immediate work requirements that are not backloaded) then focus on running water through the lines again. The increase of the SALT deduction is pornographic as it benefits those in states managed by high taxing Democrats. I, personally resent, subsidizing the mismanagement of those states. Those states should lower their taxes. This bill adds additional water to the piping, and does not restrict the ability to diminish the water pressure. Just because someone disagrees with the bill is no reason to heave them aside. PDJT and elected Reps should return to principles and not be governed by what is good for them personally.
