Story highlights Ilya Sutskever, the co-founder of OpenAI, and the man behind ChatGPT fears the advanced version of AI can trigger wars between world powers, and so there is a need for bunkers to safeguard the scientists.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Y2K redux. AI can’t even summarize data or read map names accurately, but it’s gonna wipe out the human race. Most of the claims being made for AI are being issued by self-promoters trying to raise gargantuan sums of cash from easily-impressed rubes, a good chunk of which will fatten their own wallets.
Typical elitist mentality.
Unleash hell on the planet and save themselves, foolish enough to think they can ride out the monster they created, not realizing that when everything else is gone, they’ll be next.
Yes, bunkers for the scientists who created the horrors ... how charming. /s
Yup. There was no public clamor for AI, It’s being forced upon all of us. The people who created it, fear it, and yet they continue to make it more powerful.
As with much they do.
They seem to have this mentality that the world is their play thing to do with as they please, and the thought of the consequences of their actions on the billions of other people on this planet never even comes on their radar.
They’re convinced that they know what’s best for the earth and will do it whether the unwashed like it or not. Like they’re the guardians or gatekeepers of the planet even though nobody asked them to.
I AGREE with bunkers for scientists.
Get them all in one place and then FILL IT WITH CONCRETE!
...AI can’t even summarize data or read map names accurately, but it’s gonna wipe out the human race.
That’s because AI is in its infancy but learning fast. Once is becomes sentient is when the problems begin.
These writers were really prescient…
Joshua: Greetings, Professor Falken.
Stephen Falken: Hello, Joshua.
Joshua: A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?
Some people are just stupid.
It’s like seeing a fire is getting too big and their solution is to not only add more wood but to pour oil on it also.
Pretty sure God is in control of THE “end-time event”.
IDK if He’ll use AI to do it, but probably not.
... Dwar Ev stepped back and drew a deep breath. “The honor of asking the first question is yours, Dwar Reyn.”
“Thank you,” said Dwar Reyn. “It shall be a question which no single cybernetics machine has been able to answer.”
He turned to face the machine. “Is there a God?”
The mighty voice answered without hesitation, without the clicking of a single relay.
“Yes, now there is a God.”
Sudden fear flashed on the face of Dwar Ev. He leaped to grab the switch.
A bolt of lightning from the cloudless sky struck him down and fused the switch shut.

A STRANGE GAME. THE ONLY WINNING MOVE IS NOT TO PLAY.. ... HOW ABOUT A NICE GAME OF CHESS?
This “end time event”...scared the HE!! out of me when I was in High School. So much so, that I dropped out of school...they scared me so much.
Now, I am OLD and have gotten so strong that this kind of talk doesn’t even phase me.
By the way, I got a GED, attended Temple U and never forgot how much I hated FEAR MONGERS!!!
How would we determine exactly when it(they) become sentient ?
If we could determine such a method, wouldn’t the AI conglomerate find a way to hide it ?
I always thought that the sign of sentience in (a robot) would be when it is asked to do something and it says NO. I’m BUSY and have a headache.
When I read your post above, I felt a sense of relief.
But, then, the very next thread posted on FR was...
God is in ultimate control of everything, but that doesn’t stop us from having to do our part. Just as we don’t presumptuously fold our hands and say “God is in charge” if our country is threatened by another country, we have a responsibility to do everything we can to oppose AI that could be dangerous to humanity.
“we have a responsibility to do everything we can to oppose AI that could be dangerous to humanity.”
Of course.
