There were four who voted present. There will almost certainly be more in the entire caucus than just these four in the committee. Odds are pretty good this cannot get through the house.

My guess is that the bill will pass the House, narrowly, but with a promise for a follow up measure that attempts to address overspending and the rapidly deteriorating federal finances.

The Speaker could have used the the spending bill without Biden’s Inflation Reduction numbers if he and the GOP really wanted to decrease spending.

Not HUGE the way it was passed. It’ll never make it out of the House in its current state and it shouldn’t. Massive cuts to federal government are needed

If they really want to reduce spending they will stop using baseline budgeting.

Then we’ll know for sure.

Never underestimate the ability of Congress to spend money we/they don’t have.

Is there anyone besides me who has grown weary of the late-night theatrics in Congress?

Congress wants to leave the impression that they are working 24 hours a day.

I will argue the DOGE cuts and findings while real are inadequate to resolve the deficit spending and debt reduction.

Until entitlements are assaulted and reduced, some deficit will remain and there will be little or no debt reduction. it is possible that the imposition of the tariff taxes and a business boom will boost revenues to take care of the deficit.

We will lose 2026 if that happens.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////

There will be no follow up, of course. The tricky part of all this is the exact phrasing of everything must pass the Senate, who will not be permitted to do amendments, which is otherwise their normal procedure.

Both houses must pass exactly the same thing, which is likely why Johnson could not address the concerns of these 4 guys.

It’s trillions of deficit increase. The details within matter much less than that. And as the deficit increases, that accelerates debt increases.

It’s largely insane.

When the crunch comes due to a bond market crisis, Congress will willingly defer to Trump instead of making decisions and taking the heat.

You are not known for accurate election predictions.

I think CNN is going to be the most accurate poll this year. That is my prediction.

Forget blacks and Hispanics. White women could sink this thing for Trump.
