Trump orders the government to stop enforcing rules he doesn’t like

Critics say the administration is breaking the law and sidestepping the rulemaking process that presidents of both parties have routinely followed.

At the Transportation Department, enforcement of pipeline safety rules has plunged to unprecedented lows since President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Trump recently ordered Energy Department staff to stop enforcing water conservation standards for showerheads and other household appliances. And at one Labor Department division, his appointees have instructed employees to halt most work related to antidiscrimination laws.

Across the government, the Trump administration is trying a new tactic for gutting federal rules and policies that the president dislikes: simply stop enforcing them.

“The conscious effort to slow down enforcement on such a broad scale is something we have never seen in previous administrations,” said Donald Kettl, a professor emeritus at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy. “It amounts to a dramatic assertion of presidential power and authority.”

This account of the Trump administration’s efforts to scale back application of many laws is based on interviews with more than a dozen federal employees across seven agencies, as well as a review of internal documents and federal data. The employees spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution.

Trump officials say these efforts will allow the president to swiftly scrap regulations that are burdening a variety of businesses and industries.

“When you have a new regulation, it’s really, really hard on business,” Kevin Hassett, who directs Trump’s National Economic Council, told CNBC on Monday.

“They’ve got to hire all these engineers and lawyers to figure out, ‘What are we going to do with this new regulation?’” Hassett added. “And so by pausing that, already, we’re having a big, massive, positive effect.”

Critics say the administration is breaking the law and sidestepping the rulemaking process that presidents of both parties have routinely...

Biden didn't like immigration law so he didn't enforce it and told illegal aliens to "surge" the wide open border as soon as he was elected.

But that's different. Biden only ignored/violated federal law. Trump is breaking the rules of unelected bureaucrats! That cannot be allowed.

Rules of unelected bureaucrats have become laws that Congress should pass. Congress has for decades created legislators instead of passing laws.

Yes, the Post and like-minded leftists didn’t seem to care a whit about Monsieur Biden not enforcing the immigration laws, spending billions on bringing criminals into the US, ignoring the Supreme Court rulings on college tuition payments, etc. as the scribe used to say, it depends on whose ox is being gored and who is doing the goring.

You mean like the way Biden simply refused to enforce immigration laws?

Much of what they cite are not laws. They are mere regulations made by bureaucrats in the executive branch. As the head of the executive branch, President Trump is free to change any regulations he wishes.

If a “rule” isn’t spelled out by an act of Congress, it is entirely up to the President to decide which bureaucratic dictates he wishes to enforce.

EXACTLY. WaPo didn’t make a peep about that.

The negative MSM stories on Trump are becoming more ludicrous by the day.
Just more evidence that the democrat party is imploding.
Their only hope is to cultivate a government supported illegal alien voting base for themselves by ripping off US citizens.
That is why they will side with illegal alien thieves, drug dealers, human traffickers, pedophiles, rapists and murderers until hell freezes over.

Biden Admin didn’t simply ignore the immigration law. He was actively going against the law by flyng the illegals to American soils.

I think those responsible for it needs to be in prison.

Aiding illegal aliens to come into, or remain in, the United States is violation of federal laws. Biden and his administration ignored it and together they all committed felonies re illegals. Then they asserted Mask and Vax mandates which violated constitutional law. There’s basically no limit to what Biden/Obama would ignore if the law ‘got in their way.’ Even with rigged courts, the leftists couldn’t prove their accusations about Russia Russia Russia were true. These people are so evil they proudly proclaim what is right is wrong, what is true is false, that lies are reality etc. It’s crazy.

Biden ignored immigration law he didn't like. Biden ignored student loan agreements he didn't like. Biden ignored convicted criminals' sentences he didn't like and pardoned bad people.

None of which the Compost had a problem with.

Then how do regulatory agencies get to create their own laws without Congressional oversight? The EPA passes regulations all the time and has created rules and regulations that have become a full employment act for them. Two questions: 1) do we need all of the regs they have created, and 2) do we need 16,000+ employees to enforce regulations no one approved? To me, no on both counts.
