France’s civil aviation authority asked airlines to reduce flights by 40% at Paris-Orly airport on Sunday evening after air traffic control systems suffered a breakdown..
The authority, known as DGAC, said in a statement that some “regulation” was needed involving a significant reduction in the number of flights. The statement didn´t provide details on the cause of the breakdown.
Paris-Orly airport serves domestic and international flights, including to most European countries and the U.S.
Flights to Spain, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland and several French cities were canceled on Sunday while many others were delayed.
More than 33 million passengers traveled through Paris-Orly airport last year, about half the number at Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle,

Chinese made equipment ?
Probably out of date like ours.
More likely hacked by sovereign nationals unfriendly to the US…..China or Russia comes to mind.
Beat me to it. I wonder if China is tweaking everybody to remind them who has whom’s number.

“ The Biden White House made a stunning admission that Chinese hackers have the ability to cripple the American power grid and ports, and it is reportedly not just run-of-the-mill intrusions but increasingly sophisticated actors with unparalleled skills.
Jake Sullivan, national security adviser, had known about the Chinese hackers’ ability to knock out critical infrastructure for more than a year, sources told The Wall Street Journal.
In the fall of 2023 he had warned telecommunications and technology executives in a secret White House meeting, seeking Big Tech’s help in protecting American lives and infrastructure from hacks.…”
I am amazed at American’s short memory.
Zut alors!
Like so many things run by governments.
They can’t or won’t keep up with changing technology and growing demand.
Roads, bridges, air traffic control, healthcare, defense, inflation…..
Our assumption that technology and living standards always have an upward trend may not be right. After the Roman Empire, we had hundreds of years of backwardness.
I’m so glad I haven’t had to fly for business lately. Flying economy was already awful but it’s just getting worse and worse.
Trump’s fault.

Direct flights to the US from Orly look to be relatively unknown discount carriers. Major airline fly from DeGaulle. “Air Caraibes, French Bee, and Air Europa” - no thanks.
I got caught in one of these “strikes” back about 5 years ago.
I will NEVER fly in, out or thru of Paris ever again.
Sounds like a plan.
What is DEI in French?
I’d say you’re right. Thanks.
Merde alors!
I love to fly, been to lots of countries.
But now, nope. My daughter and her friend fly all over the world, six months ago, cruised Australia, New Zealand, etc.. This year, they’re planning another trip to somewhere. I’d like to take daughter to New Orleans, but the flying situation is scary.
