The ordinary Republicans who supported President Donald Trump in 2024 are just plain “rotten,” according to the editor of TheBulwark.com, a Substack for the NeverTrump activists who were hurled headlong from the GOP when they rebelled against Trump’s coalition.
“What if American society is rotten?” wrote Jonathan Last, the Bulwark’s editor, who tracks the dismal situation that surrounds his vanquished crew of anti-Trump rebels:
This happens. Just as a matter of history, we have seen societies fall apart, or tear themselves apart, because the people were no longer capable of sustaining them. All empires fall, eventually. Why would American society be impervious to degeneration?

There’s a strain of Pandora that runs through every political persuasion. And buried within each strain is a massive fundraising opportunity. The Bulwark has lived high on the hog by tapping Democrat plutocrats for cash to peddle Democrat policies to Republicans and fail miserably in doing so. The Democrats using lawfare backed by Supreme Court Justice Roberts are creating a constitutional crisis. Nothing as bad since the Dred Stott finding prior to the Civil War. Trump should go before the American people and explain why he is temporarily eliminating habeas corpus. Then, if there is a negative reaction from the Supreme Court he should request their impeachment. If the Republicans do not go along. He should form a new political party.
