I’ve never heard ‘86’ EVER used to denote violence

Maybe it's a regional thing ... but to "86" someone has meant "kill" that person for as long as I can remember. In general it can also mean eject, reject, destroy, etc. based on context.

Used to hear it in old black and white movies.

Like K-Oed for knockedout.

Coney probably just wanted to draw attention of Trump’s accomplishments on this trip and get the media to go chase this squirrel instead.

“I’ve never heard ‘86’ EVER used to denote violence, in life or fiction, written or otherwise.”

For decades I’ve known it means to trash, end, kill, etc. something.

Was the beach in Arizona?

It's an OLD thing for killing someone!

In restaurant code, it means get rid of a dish or some item.

Comey made that shell display and he knows damned well what it means!

“I could say “86 46” in sea shells. So what?”

The Secret Service would still investigate your ass, but you are not a once-almighty powerful government head that can still pull strings. That is the difference between you and Comey, in case you can’t figure that out.

Now the POS is claiming he didn't know what 8647 meant. See comments.

Likewise. The other mentioned in comments is alien to me.

I’m a theatrical junkie. I can’t accept something as being common lexicon if I’ve never seen it in a movie, let alone anywhere else.

That stated, certain modern slang and gang lexicon is alien to me as well.

I say go after comey for all the right things and let this go.

I’ve only ever known the 86 term to mean “get rid of” or “toss out”. Unless youth have recently changed as a reference to kill someone. If so, guessing it was in rap lyrics and now people use it that way.

For the record, Urban Dictionary’s first archive entry lists the following in 2006:

86’d 86
1. 86’d

Not available. No longer allowed(in an area or premisis).

“The Salmon on the menu has been 86’d. We sold out of it.” or “He has been 86’d from this establishment.”

by Alfredo Herard Aug 1, 2003

2. 86’d

Eliminated, rubbed out, scratched, or, more bluntly, killed.

For a more accurate definition see 86.

They 86’d Vinnie Pagliaguzzi after he went to the police with information about last week’s heist.

by Rodney Basil May 5, 2004

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=86%27d

The definition of ‘86’ is here and reflects my knowledge and experience

https://web.archive.org/web/20060328005133/http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=86

The attribution of ‘rubbed out/killed’ originates from a single contributor in 2004 - Rodney Basil - and without sourcing.

Sometime during 2011 Urban Dictionary changed the definition to elevate “86’d” as ‘killing’ (#1) as follows:

To get rid of, originally for killing someone. The phrase “80 miles out and 6 feet under” was reserved for someone who had to dig their own grave 80 miles from civilization and then get shot execution-style. All terms for 86’d originated from this, be it alcohol or eliminating.
It’s supposed that Jimmy Hoffa was 86’d under the endzone of Giants Stadium.

By 2016 the definition was solely reflected by the following

To get rid of, originally for killing someone. The phrase “80 miles out and 6 feet under” was reserved for someone who had to dig their own grave 80 miles from civilization and then get shot execution-style. All terms for 86’d originated from this, be it alcohol or eliminating.

And continues to this day.

Interesting enough, but frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn. I concede that I may be out of touch with certain slang. But I’m not alone.

Done here.

You must live under a freakin rock. There is no way in hell that any FBI director doesn’t know what the Term 86 means.
