The Secret Service is investigating after ex-FBI Director James Comey posted an Instagram photo of seashells arranged to make the numbers "86 47" — a message that White House officials swiftly condemned as an attempt to put out a "hit" against the 47th president.
Comey later deleted the post after online backlash from government officials, lawmakers and President Donald Trump’s son. Trump has faced two assassination attempts — one of which resulted in him being shot and a bystander being killed — in the past year.
The post including the alleged "hit" showed the numbers in question etched into the sand at a beach using seashells. "Cool shell formation on my beach walk…" Comey captioned the Thursday post. While to some people the numbers may appear innocuous, "86" is frequently used as a call sign for murdering or getting rid of someone, while "47" has been interpreted as denoting the 47th President of the United States.
Following backlash on social media over the post, including from at least one lawmaker who called for Comey to be arrested, the ex-FBI chief deleted the post shared to his Instagram and put up a message addressing it.
"I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message," the subsequent post from Comey read. "I didn't realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down."
Shortly after Comey removed the post, Fox News Digital learned from a source in the Secret Service that they were aware of the matter and will be sending agents to investigate and interview former director Comey.

The guy’s cell phone was pinged in DC by the FBI building IIRC.
I can only encourage a tree in the forest to fall on Jimmy.
If he feigns ignorance of what it meant that makes him even more culpable.

And pretending that he just took an innocent picture of somebody else’s shell creation, cuz he wouldn’t do that—would he? Then he claims he doesn’t know what 86 means. Thry guy is pathological. A scary, calculating sneak who needs a visit from Kash and Dan.
I would love to see Comey held accountable for his crimes. I hope it is soon.

I’ve never heard ‘86’ EVER used to denote violence, in life or fiction, written or otherwise. If it’s a recent revelation via social media, that’s news to me and I’d never see it anyway.
I’ll enjoy his time taking heat for this, but I don’t believe he’s stupid enough to make a social media violent threat as a ds insider. Just a bit ignorant. Like me.
The phrase probably just came to his clever mind, he hadn’t seen internet or social media discussions about it going back weeks.
Oh, and true to his sociopathic self, Comey did this to bait Kash Patel and the rest of the Trump law enforcement team. Comey and all sociopaths think they are very clever and can outwit even the smartest people. It’s a game to them. Comey has a pattern of doing this. The guy is a sick, sick person who gets off on stuff like this. It’s what makes him tick.

Wrong. He knows exactly what it means and what he is doing. He thinks he is so smart by pretending that he randomly came across someone else’s shell creation and innocently took a photo. The guy is messing with everyone’s head. Totally calculated. He’s a sick man.
I have personal experience and witness of “86” meaning removal by force, without consequences.
He claims he just found it on the beach, implying someone else left it there and he just happened to stumble across it. But not understanding it, he decided to photograph it and just put it in his feed without and remark, such as “what do you think this is? Beats me!”
Comey is feeling left out and just wanted some media attention and maybe a visit from old friends.
I got a mild education today about that number. My sense is that Comey hopes for violent construal, but the law will never be able to prove it or bring charges. I could say “86 46” in sea shells. So what?
