House Republicans are proposing to bar most non-citizens from receiving taxpayer-funded benefits, including food stamps, in President Donald Trump’s “one big, beautiful bill.”
GOP lawmakers are pursuing an extensive overhaul of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help offset the cost of the president’s tax priorities. The House Agriculture Committee will include a provision in their draft bill to restrict SNAP benefits to those who are citizens or lawful permanent residents following Republican Illinois Rep. Mary Miller’s request to the panel to prohibit certain non-citizens from receiving food stamps.
“Taxpayer-funded benefits like SNAP are intended for Americans in need, not foreigners who break the law to enter this country,” Miller told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “That’s why I fought to include my proposal in the Agriculture Committee’s reconciliation plan, saving taxpayers up to $8 billion over the next decade and reversing Biden’s unlawful handouts given to millions of illegal aliens. I appreciate my colleagues on the committee for working with me to include this critical reform in President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill.”

1. Good, non citizens should not get it.
2. Why should non citizen "lawful permanent residents" get it, cut them also.
3. Why is the government giving out taxpayer money, cut everyone. It's just wealth transfer and vote buying.

You are not required to be a citizen to be here. My grandmothers who came here about 1900 never became citizens. My grandfathers worked, paid taxes etc...
There is no requirement to be a citizen in any country. The words “lawful permanent residents” are entitled. They work, pay taxes, own property...
Number 3... Cut out all welfare programs period including SS, Medicare, Medicaid. It’s not the governments job to feed you and keep you healthy it’s your job.

I read a day or two ago that this Congress has sent fewer bills to the President than any Congress in the past 70 years.
They are still here in NC at the nearby Walmart with all their kids in tow, loading up their grocery carts with lots of food and paying for it all with SNAP cards.
What gets me is the amount of pork and chicken they get with cases of beer on the bottom of the carts. They pay for the food with SNAP cards and pay cash for the beer and other things not allowable. They’re obviously having huge parties and cookouts on our dollars.
How TF does anyone come here illegally and get even one penny of taxpayer money?
No wonder thieves run in from their shitholes by the millions.

The whole food stamp program is in desperate need of an overhaul and most recipients need to have them cut and go out and find a job and work for their food, like the rest of us.
Or they can learn to garden and grow it themselves.
Illegals should be getting NOTHING.
No free anything with the possible exception of a ride back, if they don’t have the money to pay for it themselves.
If they could afford to come here, they can afford to leave.
SNAP is a very small tidbit of what US tax payers fork over able bodied freeloaders. Cut it all off for illegals. Cut most of it off US citizens and put a time limit on it. It shouldn’t be for generation after generation.
The maximum monthly SNAP benefit for a four-person household in Texas is $939. Remember the $939 SNAP is 70% of the $1350/mo the government thinks it takes to feed a family of 4. Then there are 5 days a week their kids get free breakfasts and lunches at school and free lunches during the summer for ages 0-21 so those are more meals, outside of SNAP, tax payers pay. Food banks and other charities don’t operate on pixie dust.
That is 3 TIMES MORE than this household’s $3.75/day/person food budget. That comes out of our working job income, not the government or food banks or charity. Thanks to us not living off steak and lobster so others can, grrr. We don’t eat out so it is cooking from scratch and that’s good meals rarely rice/beans/pasta. If I can do it, certainly recipients can get off the couch. There is no reason we have to pay for illegals to get free everything off tax payers’ backs and 3 times more is a major slap in the face from our elected leaders. Being on SNAP also gets them free phones, free internet, discounts on utilities, free admission to the zoo and museums, etc. - WHY? We share 1 old phone that came with our cheap service, we don’t leave lights on and don’t turn the hvac on unless it gets uncomfortable keeping the elec bill down, we don’t drive BMWs and the garbage bill causes heart palpitations.
The maximum monthly income for a 4-person household to be eligible for SNAP in Texas is $4,125 and they get a flat $23 SNAP funds along with the extra freebies. Excuse me?!? We’ve never seen a monthly income anywhere close to that much.

I’m right behind you there, this inaction is just like his first term when they did nothing to help him even though we had both the House and Senate.
It is absolutely planned wilful inaction and they are going to waste this opportunity just like they did last time. Anyone who claims all Trump’s opposition are Democrats is an idiot. The Republicans up there are also throwing him under the Bus with organized inaction and there is absolutely no way this can be defended or excused.
