I recall Quebec had a referendum on leaving Canada a number of years ago. They voted narrowly to remain in Canada.
Apparently Canadian law will allow provinces to secede, with a vote of the people, and a negotiated settlement of withdrawal.
Unlike the U.S., as our laws and constitution do not have any provision for states to leave the union.
Now do Saskatchewan.
Territory yes, state no!
Carneys country is hemorrhaging manufacturing jobs add this to his worries and he may not very long as Prime Minister.
I’d like to see the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the NFL.
Alberta could conceivably decide to be an independent country, and not try to become a U.S. state. I’ve heard conflicting things about secession of Canadian provinces and what comes next after a vote to leave Canada.
If it comes to that, we Americans would have to decide, do we want to admit Alberta as a state, if they were free of Canada? We shouldn’t just have a knee jerk reaction to admit Alberta, if they get free of Canada.
My granddaughter went to Canada last week on a scouting trip. My husband had a bunch of Canadian money he had when he returned from his trips. He gave it to her to use. They didn’t want it. They preferred the good old American dollar.
They can’t join the USA until they deep-six “aboot” and “ay”!
And BC except Greater Vancouver.
“state no!”
We could get two more very conservative Senators.
Only as long as their ski lift ticket prices remain low.
Well yeah, that a 20% increase in value!................
Talk about cool, eh?
I don’t know if I want them as a state, they’d make the map of the USA look really goofy
What’s the actual support in Alberta for joining the US? Separatism isn’t the same thing as wanting to become the 51st state. If the support is there, it’s definitely worth considering for the US - as long as the two new Senators and however many House reps aren’t automatic Democrats. Canada as a whole, though - absolutely not.
Love to have ‘em. But only if they voluntarily do it. But they do know that we also have the degenerative and always fatal leftist disease of reverse economic and civic evolution.
I’m not so sure of that, my own self.
Why do you think that?
Offer to trade Maine for Alberta
And we’ll throw in Rhode Island for free................
