WASHINGTON — The drama surrounding Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon has a new lead player: a top aide known to his detractors as “Rasputin Ricky.”
Ricky Buria, the defense secretary’s de facto chief of staff, is a rare Biden administration holdover and an internal critic of Vice President JD Vance’s “wackamamie crazy” and “isolationist” views — who has also slammed President Trump’s use of the military for immigration enforcement as “dumb.”
Buria, 43, is also considered “incredibly intelligent and hardworking,” has fashioned himself as a China hawk and is seen by Hegseth as an effective administrator who keeps the office running smoothly — but the White House has blocked him from a permanent chief of staff appointment due to concern about his alignment with the commander-in-chief.

But this guy sounds like a major back-stabber. The one who babysits Hegseth's phone and is a strong Democrat.
Why do officials in the Trump administration insist on bringing in people known to be hostile to Trump? We already have an entrenched bureaucracy filled with anti-Trumpers - why is Hegseth trying to add one more in a high-profile position? Seems like a major error in judgement.
Weeding out these people is like getting rid of termites.
Gee, Pete. Get your act together!
We don’t know why hegseth wants him in there nor why the White House said no
We act like the NYP is an intel briefing
We’re getting much less info since Trump cut off so many security permits
It could be that hegseth is a huge dope
It could be the opposite. We don’t know
“Gee, Pete. Get your act together!”
Pete, like many others in this administration, aren’t ready for the big leagues. That or they are intentionally sabatoging Trump.
Pick someone else. Flush this guy down the toilet.
If he can’t control his personal feelings on any disagreements he may have on policy with the President and Vice President, then, regardless of his abilities in other areas, he shouldn’t be there - period. The inability to keep one’s personal disagreements private is disqualifying for such an important position.
It’s one thing to respectfully express disagreement with a policy when it’s solicited in the course of duty. It’s another to openly express those disagreements in a mocking, overly emotional way in a semi-public setting. It shows a real lack of emotional control on his part and makes his continued presence in his current position a security risk.
Surprisingly disappointed in Hegseth
WTF is Pete THINKING?????? BEYOND PSTUPID!
You can never get all of them.
“bringing in”???
Right there in sentence #2 is this: “a rare Biden administration holdover”
But why would they keep such a back-stabber on the team?
who last month fired, with Buria’s encouragement, three top aides including well-known non-interventionist Dan Caldwell, who had served as a senior adviser to the defense secretary.
I question if this is really Peter's guy as reported.
So the guy has outed himself as a potential leaker. No thanks.
I really like Pete, but if he doesn't get his act together, he'll be back hawking pain pills at FNC {or msnbc, cnn or any other cable channel that will pay him}.
Doing pushups with the troops won't save him if he keeps crapping the bed.
‘Not ready’ - it may be why he’s depending on someone who is experienced. However that person is all wrong.
he’s a Biden holdover ... the title sucks ...

Very true.
