Trump gives up on Ed Martin pick for US attorney in DC
Rolll Call ^ | May 8 | By Michael Macagnone

President Donald Trump said Thursday he would pull Ed Martin’s nomination to be U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia and would soon announce a replacement for the embattled pick.

The shift comes after a monthslong fight in the Senate to confirm Martin, who currently serves in the role on a temporary basis. Earlier this week, Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., a key vote on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he would oppose Martin’s confirmation to the post.

At the committee, Martin faced hundreds of written questions from senators about his past advocacy for participants in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and late disclosures of appearances on outlets aligned with the Russian government. Throughout the confirmation process, Democrats called Martin unqualified and requested a hearing on his nomination, which is rare for a U.S. attorney pick.

OK, make a special investigative slot for him to investigate the congress-critters. Since they don’t like him so much they must have a guilty conscience and deserve a lot more scrutiny than they get. For National Security reasons and China.

This is a man who will never be confirmed to any high office. His background is far too easy to use against him personally and the government he’d represent.

Individuals who can make a difference in DC do not make it through the gate.

If John Thune wasn’t a worthless jellyfish and actually had a spine, he’d remove Tillis from the committee.

Sending nastygrams to Schumer didn't help his cause. I doubt he had any real intention to stick around after he sent the letter of inquiry to Schumer.

Nice job EM..

There are a lot of jobs he can be appointed to, that do not require confirmation.

I hear he might put Judge Jeneane in as another interim attorney.

Bondi should appoint Martin special prosecutor over J6 investigations and name Jeannine Pirro instead.

Trump knows how this game is played. He will keep appointing someone with same/similar skill set as EM until the senate caves on a permeant hire...

My guess is that Thune was on board with Tillis.

If John Thune wasn’t a worthless jellyfish and actually had a spine, he’d remove Tillis from the committee.

Unless the uniparty needed a GOP senator to block it and Tillis made some sort of deal to be the one who did it.

Call me a cynic but I don't think the GOP believes or stands for any of the things they say they do, and I beleive the evidence consistently backs that up.

Note: Biden got all the legislature he wanted through, with GOP help, and all his nominees, with GOP votes. In his first term Trump got less GOP support than Biden did and here we go again.
