So stunning, so brave.
In what's being called a "contrast" to the two white men who have statues in Times Square, a new 12-foot statue of a fictionalized overweight black woman has been erected at Broadway and 46th Street.
Why?
The Times Square Arts association presents a big word salad on its official website for the bronze statue (it will stay standing until June 17) created by artist Thomas J Price, but then, buried deep in the word salad, we get an interesting nugget.
Email: joe.kinsey@outkick.com "Installed at ground level on a wide low base, the work invites engagement with the hundreds of thousands of people who traverse the plazas each day, the woman in Grounded in the Stars cuts a stark contrast to the pedestaled permanent monuments — both white, both men — which bookend Duffy Square, while embodying a quiet gravity and grandeur," the Times Square Arts group says on its site.
You guessed it. This is about race.
Who are the two white men that the Times Square Arts won't name? One of the white men is World War I hero Father Francis Duffy who became the most highly decorated cleric in the history of the U.S. Army for his efforts during combat on the Western Front in France. Duffy was honored with the Distinguished Service Cross for his service to the United States which included caring for wounded and dying men. The other white man is George C. Cohan who is regarded as a Broadway hero who was America's first show business superstar. NPR says Cohan should be remembered as the man who "created Broadway." In other words, without Cohan's efforts in the early 20th century, there's a chance there's no Times Square for the 12-foot overweight black woman to chill for the next couple of

I think it is insulting/mocking, too-I don’t get why the city would allow that caricature of a welfare queen/ethnic stereotype on display if they are serious about equality in their exhibit...
“My boi didn’t do NUFFIN”!
I entered a Target store a couple of weeks ago. Didn’t have what I wanted anyway.
In the long section of women’s clothes they now have a gallery of Plus Size and larger women’s pictures on six foot tall display reproductions in various poses. The customers apparently couldn’t relate to Eva Longoria or Sofia Vergara or Jennifer Garner types.
When you’re selling clothing to fat people, you need fat models so the customers will be able to judge what the clothing will look like on them. It’s just good business.
“My chile.. He dinnt do nufin.”
I’m waiting for the plaque to accompany the statue.
Of course you’re right.
It was just that I hadn’t gone into a Target Store for a long time it was a sort of culture shock thing.
One look at the customers made me know your idea is right, though.
And all the stores’ skinny suits for men aren’t for me, either.
Those customers may be natural born XY males ... but they're not men.
I haven't been in a Target store for a long time. Thanks for reminding me why. ;'}
“ Compare to what Western culture used to do.”
We (Western white guys) designed machines that could either 3-D print this or computer-controlled carve this.
We have to give the original (white) guy credit for the design, though.
Like Uncle Ben and the woman on Land O Lakes butter, they couldn’t make it past the woke era.
Uncle Remus, who said to Uncle Ben, ‘You’re a credit to your rice!’......Never got a dinner.

"We've got miles and miles of fabric!"
When this statue was commissioned, the expectation was that it would be unveiled in a country where Kamala Harris was the president and Trump was behind bars as a result of the work of Tish James and Fani Willis.
We were supposed to be living in a black woman renaissance right now.
You jest ... but pictures of skinny chicks won’t sell clothes to the “big boned” gals. They don’t look like “Eva Longoria or Sofia Vergara or Jennifer Garner” and they’re very much aware of that fact.
I thought I recognized Ms James and her Medusa stare.
Sleep well Texan5!!
She needs a purple SEIU T-shirt, XXXXL
They didn't just allow it, they're promoting it.
You won't find anyone more racist than someone who calls themselves "liberal".
Shirley this is the Babylon Bee?
Probably weighs just as MUCH as the woman it was modeled after
,,, wait for the bitching to start about the twelve foot height. How limiting can you get?!!! Throw more money at a fifty foot statue to make sure racism is kept in check. LOL!
