The United States has reportedly encouraged intelligence agencies to ramp up spying efforts in Greenland amid President Donald Trump repeatedly floating the idea of taking over the Arctic island....
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing two sources, that high-ranking officials working under Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Habbard sent a "collection of emphasis message" to the heads of various intelligence agencies last week.
Intelligence agencies have been directed to learn more about the independence movement on the island and the general attitude of the Greenlanders towards American resource extraction, the Journal added.
The agencies have been asked to use tools like satellites, surveillance, and communication intercepts, as well as spies on the ground, to gather information on people in both Greenland and Denmark who favor Trump's ambitions.
Agencies involved in the Greenland order include the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, and the Defense Intelligence Agency.
The Journal reported that while the National Security Council spokesman, James Hewitt, said that the White House will not comment on intelligence issues, he reiterated Trump's desire to acquire Greenland.
"The president has been very clear that the U.S. is concerned about the security of Greenland and the Arctic," Hewitt said.
"The Wall Street Journal should be ashamed of aiding deep state actors who seek to undermine the President by politicizing and leaking classified information. They are breaking the law and undermining our nation’s security and democracy," Tulsi Gabbard said in her statement to the paper.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
That's how color revolutions begin.
Identify, recruit, and finance opposition "leaders" to serve as U.S. puppets.
"The Wall Street Journal should be ashamed of aiding deep state actors who seek to undermine the President ...
This "leak" might well have been Trump approved.
Either way, Trump and the Neocon Deep State are united on this.
They are breaking the law and undermining our nation’s security and democracy," Tulsi Gabbard said.
When the American Empire uses its massive intelligence resources to assist in taking another nation's territory -- that's undermining democracy.
We won’t be “taking” Greenland or any other sovereign territory without agreement of those “taken”. Or at least 51% of them. We ain’t Russia.
And when Democrats do it, it’s gathering intelligence. When Republicans do it. it’s SPYING.
Again, that's how color revolutions work.
Create and finance an opposition. Finance tech and media support (fake social media accounts, bot posters, etc.). Amplify "popular complaints" against Denmark (that people didn't realize they had until the sudden media blitz). Provide "spontaneous demonstrations." Hold an election.
It's how Soros does it. It's how Obama did it in Ukraine. It's how Biden tried to do it in Hungary.
A few years later, the people realize they were duped and want out. But by then it's too late.
Once the U.S. owns Greenland, it can flood it with U.S. citizens (the way Soros is flooding Europe and the U.S. with Third World migrants), and Greenland will never be able to leave the U.S.
“The Wall Street Journal reported, citing two sources,”
White House did not deny the story.
Government leaks are often approved by those whose secrets are supposedly revealed. It's part of creating a spin.
Trump might, or might not, have approved the leak. I don't know.
But some Freepers will say this "leak" is him trolling or playing 4-D chess.
If any of this happened, which i doubt it will, Greenland would become the largest native reservation on earth.
As in, American Indian Reservation.
That is how it could happen.
This “US will invade Greenland” hysteria is anti-Trump derangement to its comical extreme. But Trump opened the door to it with his “trolling”, just like he probably helped cause a Liberal victory in the Canadian elections with his musing about making Canada the 51st state.
Why would Trump approve such a leak?
Stop with your neo- con garbage.
I don’t know. Trolling? Testing the waters to see what the response would be? A show of power? Trying to rattle Denmark or Greenland to gain concessions? 4-D chess?
You should go back to DU where you belong troll
Greenlanders will be against us on principle. It doesn’t mean we can’t make a deal on access to the minerals. We’ll do it right unlike past colonialists.
I agree, though I don’t think it is the minerals as much as the Arctic military position that is a priority.
Knowing what is happening with regards to the independence movement does not mean that he is doing so in order to foment a color revolution. I do not believe he even agrees in that, especially after having faced lawfare arrayed against him.
But having information certainly can be used to create the best sales pitch to add to the U.S. national security arsenal.
Daily Express is not exactly the most reliable news source either.
I'll take this with a big grain of salt, and park it i the let's see category.
Trump learned his trolling lesson with Canada.
And, what kind of moron writes about “asking” and “directing” in the same paragraph? Wut? Never done a real job where you had to differentiate between your boss musing on something over coffee and getting a memo?
Gawd, the English as a 2nd language crowd is maddening.
The writer is on a creative writing mission...and failing badly.
You Neocons are shameless.
You support expanding the American Empire, whereas I oppose it -- yet you call me the Neocon?
Absolutely shameless.
I support most of Trump's policies.
But anyone who opposes Trump on anything is a thought criminal, yes?
