An entrepreneur facing skyrocketing costs due to tariffs conducted an experiment to see whether customers would voluntarily pay more for a product made in America.
"The result was, unfortunately, disappointing," Ramon van Meer told Fox News Digital. "We sold zero ‘Made in the USA’ shower heads."

Thank you very much and God bless you.
More stupid left wing assumptions. Not everything made here is more expensive.
As more and more manufacturing becomes robotic, the cost of manufacturing more and more will be set by local taxes, fees and regulations. Already, a lot of stuff is made in places like China because it’s illegal to make them in the US due to environmental impact.
I actually saw that 30 years ago regarding really bright printing. The process was illegal in the US, so it was printed in asia.
Look we all need to step up and start buying Made in the USA. If I can pay $30 for a Trump hat made in the USA, you can too.
><
You’re right. People need to step up and do their part.
Here’s part of the problem. This “entrepreneur” is a marketer. He doesn’t make anything.
Nothing wrong with hiring out your production, but not only do you pay a premium and surrender your quality to others, you’re also clueless how to manufacture your own products.
Maybe there’s no cheaper way to do it in the States except for by this one company he found. Or maybe if he took personal responsibility for his products, he might be able to find a way to make them here profitably.
Retailer van Meer told Fox News Digital: “We sold zero ‘Made in the USA’ shower heads.”
So, a retailer who buys a Chicom shirt for $5 and sells it here for $15 gets hit with a 100% tariff. His Chicom shirt is now $10, which he sells for $20. That’s a 33% price increase on a 100% tariff. A place like Walmart, with smaller markups might see a higher percentage increase in the final price, but still, the tariff is on the wholesale price.
Just about the same as SloJo’s “temporary” inflation hit.
Well who wants a low flow USA made shower head? For a real shower head you need to get that from the Serbians. They take their showers seriously.
“Look we all need to step up and start buying Made in the USA.”
I would do that, except for this I don’t buy into giving Minorities special treatment!
Level the playing field and I will accept the extra costs.
However any costs driven by politics I refuse to support.
I’ve worked with people from all over the world.
The only ones I avoid are American Blacks.
Yeah...I was trying to remember last time I bought a shower head...never?
He lists the selling prices of the made in china as $129.
This price does not include the tariff of 170%.
Add the tariff and the price for the made in china is $219.30.
So the reality is that the china item is $219.30 and the USA item is $239.
Thats less than $20.
You're preaching to the choir.
We're also talking about shower heads where we have two identical models with a $110 price difference, not Gibson Les Pauls, for example.
I prefer USA made Gibsons over Gibson's significantly cheaper Asian-made Epiphone line because there's a certain panache that comes with having Gibson on the headstock and I'm willing to pay that premium for it, even if it isn't any measurably better than the Epiphone version that costs only a fraction of the price.
$5499 vs $799:
Another Cherry picked failing retailer.
Just a quick analysis tells us he’s been overinflating a cheap Asian product and selling the crap for $129 but he can’t sell the American made version for $350
And he hadcto run test marketing to find this out. How stupid. Lowes, Home Depot, and Menards have shower heads from $19.95 and up selling thousands a month nationwide.
This guy should find a New Product.
Add the tariff and the price for the made in china is $219.30.
President Trump assured us that China will be paying the tariff, not U.S. consumers.
I talked with the president of Lodge, the cast iron pan people, while waiting for a tour of their foundry. This was ~20 years ago. They’d have a plant shut down in the Spring, there was a festival in the town, and they’d give tours.
At that time they were selling porcelainized cast iron Dutch ovens that were made in China. I told him that I’d pay 2X for one made in the USA. I wanted something US made similar to the French Le Crueset. He told me it was basically impossible to make them in the U.S. due to EPA regulations.
The hidden tariff of Made in the USA is legal compliance and liability costs!
AH you know your shower-heads. Made in former Yugoslavia, and only available now in black-markets.
Our local water company will GIVE you a low-flow shower head if you want one. Also aerators for all of your sink faucets.
We have VERY hard water - I’m always taking off faucet heads, shower heads and the sprayer at the kitchen sink to soak overnight in vinegar.
It’s not hard to do if you want better water flow. *SHRUG*
Yeah...I was trying to remember last time I bought a shower head...never?
Totally agree. I REFUSE to buy JUNK from China; have for DECADES.
It’s not hard to read a label on what you need to purchase.
Also, SHOP LOCAL! And support your own State by buying hand-crafted things within said State.
