I wonder if this would apply to many tv shows done in Canada. Vancouver has a big tv business (film makers like gray skies for it’s even light)

He should ask the IATSE locals, not the studios.

On the main thread Trump said foreign films pose a National Security Threat to the US.

I’m still scratching my head over that remark.

The majority of the housing shows on HDTV are made in Canada, such as Love it or List it, etc..my Mom’s tenant works in the entertainment industry(She works in wardrobe) its so hard for her to find work because EVERYTHING is going overseas, so so many people are out of work or barely working its terrible

How does one actually tariff a movie?

It could be flop, lose money, and take-in $10 million.

Or it could be a raging success, and after cinema and release on streaming services, over a couple years it could make $500 million.

Trump has been “bungling” his way through success after success, for years. And yet his critics still think they know better.

I’m sure those liberals will oppose the tariffs, just because they are Trump’s idea. If he said oxygen is good for you, some liberals would stop breathing.

If Trump’s question of ‘How can I help?’ is responded to at all by the Hollywood crowd, the first wave will more than likely be a majority of rude insults and disrespectful retorts. That will be the die hard Libs, reacting to their Scarecrow image of anything Trumpian.

Hopefully, after that impulsive tantrum is out of their systems, some local producers, directors and actors will take advantage of this moment, and have a dialog with the President in a more proactive and businesslike manner.
I would think he is expecting that pattern. He knows the key players well.

Why help out the people who have no use for you? Perhaps it’s the 40% of workers who love him.

Would Robert De Niro say thank you?

Excellent question.

Not only most of the years of the X-Files but many of the action movies I watch say some Canadian city in the end credits and the tax break they got.

And all the ones in Europe that cost less than in the US to film there.

Many of the Wikipedia entries for movies have the amount of the budget and the amount earned in the US and elsewhere for screening elsewhere.

Steven Segall was doing well, but then like others he sank to “direct to video” without theater screenings for some.

A film book said once that a so called money loser film brought income to the daily food detail, the sound and production crew members, transportation people, lodgings for cast and crew each day and all the things the company spent on. Plus taxes. That money wasn’t a “loss” to the hundreds of people who got paid. Interesting thought.

lol... I got rid of cable 20 years ago and only stream what I want to watch now. ...and I gotta agree. it’s been 15 years since I even took a chance on a flick with a female starring role in American films. The cover photo themselves look like a complete joke. There is one on Netflix that sticks out to me all the time... Some black broad in her car looking out the windshield. “The Equalizer!” It’s like WHOA!!
